The players youā€™ve listed are not going to win too many games at international level. Certainly not in Finals.

As for Mullen heā€™s a lower league journeyman who is almost 30. Heā€™s not the answer is he.

Thereā€™s a reason that Wales went for 64 years without qualifying for a World Cup. We arenā€™t very good.

Thatā€™s a bit like asking if you want Sunak or Starmer as Prime Minister. Neither really. But Starmer could take us to the next level. šŸ˜ƒ

As for Jenkins et al. Theyve well and truly pissed on their chips and somehow they got away with it. God knows how.

Letā€™s just say that Coleman and Page are very similar. In many ways. Proud welshmen, defenders with around 30 caps as players and both are a bit limited in terms of their tactical awareness, ability and knowledge. Coleman got off to a bad start as Wales manager. A heavy defeat to I think Serbia almost cost him his job but he had Bale in his team. A truly world class player then regarded as one of the top four or five in the world. And some other players like Ramsey at the top of their game. He was lucky in the sense that he had a strong squad by Welsh standards. He won 18 and lost 17 as manager. Page won 15 and lost 14. For Wales these are decent enough records. People seem to think we are good now when in fact we arenā€™t. We have over achieved recently and itā€™s affecting judgement. Page did a decent job with the tools he had to work with. Make no mistake.

It was a huge opportunity of course but Poland are ranked at 26 in the FIFA world rankings just ahead of Wales. Of more than 200 ranked countries. They have a world class striker who at 35 is still capable. They certainly are not the poor team that you suggest.

Wales lack quality on the pitch at present. And yet Page got Wales to their first World Cup finals for more than 60 years. And a Euro finals. Things had however become stale but overall heā€™d done a reasonably good job. Was it time for a change? Arguably yes but we had many good moments with a squad that lacks quality right through itā€¦

Where do the fans think we will finish next season?
at 22:53 15 Jun 2024

Based on our current squad we are looking at 13-17th and thatā€™s decent. We donā€™t know what will happen over the next month in terms of new players but ensuring that we donā€™t go down is about as much as we can expect at the moment.

Quick with ability but lacks consistency. Would be a good signing though. He has full caps for Poland and at 26 heā€™s in his prime albeit with just 150 league games under his belt and around 15 goals. I thought we looked dangerous with him and Ronald on the wings. Also heā€™s another entertaining player ā€¦ just needs to deliver more regularly which applies to Ronald too.

Disgraceful if they ( FAW ) have made that public or leaked the info.

A penalty kick by Dan James away from qualifying for a third successive major tournament. Shocking stuff.

Your last sentence sums up the predicament for the FAW.

Itā€™s players we need. Good players who can turn it on to win matches as Bale did. Not single-handedly of course but he inspired those around him . We are sadly lacking that type of player. Not just his quality, he was inspirational. He drove people on.

Chris Coleman was very much in the Page mould. A proud Welshman who wasnā€™t a tactical genius to put it mildly but he was fortunate enough to have a world class player plus a few others who were exceptional. Coleman in fact got off to a bad start with a few terrible heavy defeats. Heā€™s now fondly remembered and rightly so but he was in the right place at the right time too.

Thatā€™s debatable. Looking at our team we lack players of international class from 1 to 11. Man for man we arenā€™t good enough so how can you say that he canā€™t do the basics? The easy thing to do is to blame a manager . But there are wider issues which need addressing. Take Man Utd for example. Their problems run far deeper than the manager. At least they can go out and sign playersā€¦

Football is not the rocket science that some would make you believe. Things have of course changed and there are tactical ways of improving a team performance, style and strategy but in essence football is a simple game. I donā€™t for one minute think for example that employing a ā€œtactical genius ā€œ like Jose Mourinho, Pep Guardiola or Carlo Ancelotti would take us to another level. Itā€™s a non starter anyway as theyā€™re not affordable and wouldnā€™t be interested but you get my point. We do not have the players. Our top players have to play in another country.

As for Osian Roberts heā€™s approaching 60 and is better known as an Assistant or a good coach. Heā€™s not the answer either. If Page goes as seems likely we donā€™t have ideal replacements.

Regardless of who the manger is we do not have the players to pick from. The era of Bale Ramsey is over. We do not realise the huge impact that Bale had. Page cannot go out and sign new players. We have to realise that we arenā€™t a force. We never have been. 2016 was a golden period but it couldnā€™t last. You can blame the manager as much as you want to but he hasnā€™t got a magic wand to produce world class players. Anyway the results in friendly games arenā€™t important albeit theyā€™ve shown clearly that we are lacking quality and have little depth to our squad.

Yes I can blame fans for being unhappy.

This was an end of season friendly. Meaningless really especially in terms of the result. We fielded a team of mainly young and inexperienced players to give them a run, to see what they could do. The whole team only had around 40 caps between them and it showed. thought we played too many young inexperienced players but friendlies allow you to do that as the results donā€™t really matter.

Most of our players werenā€™t there. Had we drawn 0-0 at Gibraltar in a competitive game then yes Iā€™d be concerned but that wasnā€™t there the case. It was little more than a kick around for a few mates. Frustrating yes. But itā€™s of no consequence.

One thing you do not do as a football fan is judge a team on the strength of a meaningless friendly contest at the end of a long season with no fans there and where most of your best players arenā€™t even in attendance.

As for Page Out? Donā€™t be silly. We are in transition. Many of our star players have just finished playing and we are rebuilding. We have achieved nothing for more than 100 years in terms of winning anything and thatā€™s not about to change.

Rooney for Plymouth
at 22:19 27 May 2024

I thought Rooney only won 14 of his 54 games as manager at DC United?

Heā€™s shown so far a complete lack of ability to manage a football club well. An absence of an identifiable playing style, heā€™s not a good communicator, organiser, planner or motivator which is surprising given that heā€™s played under some of the best managers in the game. With a good coaching team around him he may well be successful at Plymouth but the odds are stacked against him. He seems nice enough, pleasant and decent but naive and a boy lost in a manā€™s world.

Klopps farewell

Detested by most ?

With fan bases around the world the big clubs are hardly detested by most? A bit of a generalisation to suggest that they are whereas in fact the big clubs are revered and supported around the world.

Iā€™m not sure why anyone could get offended enough by it to comment on a forum. A little bit over the top possibly but Klopp has made a lot of friends there in 9 years. Heā€™s done a good job and has been passionate as well as being fairly successful and winning the Premier League.

I suppose it was your ridiculous ā€œ utterly useless ā€œ remark that promoted a response. Casemiro is still a class act. I wouldnā€™t mind a few utterly useless players at our club. šŸ˜‚

Dropping into centre back was not an issue for him and Ten Haag knew that. He knows a bit more than we do.

Iā€™d suggest that you re-read your original post.

You seemed confused and couldnā€™t understand why Casemiro was playing in defence and it was a dig at Ten Haag too. Iā€™ve merely explained to you that Casemiro would easily adapt to that position having spent most of his career in a holding / deep midfield area. With his ability, experience and football brain it would have been a piece of cake albeit there was a momentary lapse in concentration where he became casual and it was costly.

You do know that players can adapt and are capable of different things on a pitch especially world class footballers. Although possibly not utterly useless ones.

Utterly useless ?

Heā€™s been one of the best defensive midfield players in the game and with over 70 caps for Brazil heā€™s more than capable of dropping into a defensive role which for him would be like shelling peas. For the Arsenal goal today he was too casual. Roy Keane referred to it as laziness. It was not laziness but certainly he needed to be more alert to the dangers around him.

At 32 heā€™s not the player he was but he was world class and still good enough to play for Manchester United.

Another truth is that Gyokores wasnā€™t very good for us. I watched him play several times. He didnā€™t seem to want to be here. No goals scored in his 11 league appearances is hardly an indication that he deserved more games. He seems to have matured and is doing well now but you could certainly understand why he was not getting regular games at Swansea (or Brighton where he didnā€™t start one league game. )

Could Swansea buy Rushworth?

If he returns and itā€™s highly unlikely thereā€™ll be a whole host of other more influential reasons than him enjoying the work of a goalkeeping coach thatā€™s for sure. Itā€™s almost an irrelevance in the scheme of things.
