Stoke City v QPR Betting Preview
Thursday, 8th Nov 2012 23:00 by LFW Pundits

The three LFW pundits return to look ahead to a weekend of sporting action and most importantly QPR’s trip to Stoke City. Another two winners at 9/2 for our boys last week to continue their impressive form.

Two winners last week – Andy Hillman buying money with Robin Van Persie to score first at 9/2, and Brian Power collecting at the same price on Gus McRae in the 3.45 at Ascot.

Longshot - Sunday afternoon ‘Goals Galore’ @ 8/1, 25/10/12

Banker: Van Persie to score first against Arsenal @ 9/2, 2/11/12

With only a single winner last week, the inevitable RVP vs Arsenal banker @ 9/2, i’m on the verge of slipping back into my old ways. Disappointed with my longshot last week - calling Ipswich right, but getting Blackburn totally wrong. They’re in Room 101 until we can work out what Henning Berg is planning to do with them.

NAP: Crystal Palace to win at Peterborough @ 7/5

I backed against Palace last week, so I’m making them my NAP against Peterborough to make up for it. Interesting fact: Peterborough haven’t drawn a single one of their 17 games this season.

QPR related Bet: first goal to be a header @ 4/1

I was *so* close to backing QPR for the win here, for reasons that I really can’t justify. Then I saw that Stoke have conceded a higher percentage of headed goals than any other team in the league. That, plus we all know how bad we are at set pieces, and how good Stoke are at them makes this one my bet instead.

The ‘He’s scored HOW MANY?’ bet: Charlie Austin/Burnley Score/Win double @ 3/1

He’s outscored Messi and Ronaldo this season, and more than twice the entire QPR squad combined. Ipswich have a goal difference of -20 and have conceded 31 goals already. 3/1 for a Austin goal and Burnley win looks generous.

One for the Notebook: Totti to score anytime for Roma vs Lazio @ 2/1

When following QPR allows me some spare time, I also follow AS Roma, who are every bit as frustrating as QPR are. It’s the Derby Della Capitale vs Lazio on Sunday, and Totti, my absolute favourite player of all time, is back amongst the goals for Roma. He’ll score against Lazio, the fascist bastards.

Brian Power

Winners so far:

NAP - Norwich vs QPR - Both teams to score @ 4/6, 24/8/12

Nap – Tranmere to beat Colchester 21/10, 30/08/12

LONGSHOT Ian Poulter 8/1 top European points scorer at Ryder Cup, 29/09/12

LONGSHOT - Saints/Fulham 12/5 , Liverpool/Stoke 10/3 draw double 05/10/12

NAP Gus McRae 3.45 Ascot Saturday 9/2, 2/11/12

Previously advised:

Villa to win the League Cup Each Way 18/1

David Weir, Sports Personality of the Year, each way 40/1

Nap – Chelsea to beat Liverpool, evens

Watching us at times is like pulling out teeth. Watching us play against Stoke will be like pulling out teeth without anaesthetic. Stoke and their set pieces will cause us so many problems that the 10/11 on the home side looks tempting as the NAP of the week but I can’t do it. Instead the NAP of the week is something that sticks in my throat and makes me feel dirty even saying it. The mob from SW6 are Even money to beat Liverpool on Sunday that is very generous considering Liverpool are poor. When else are you going to get that price on a club in the top two to beat a team in the bottom half. Double your cash with some of BET365’s money

Longshot – Fulham to win at Arsenal 6/1

The longshot of the week is Fulham at Arsenal. Mr Wengers side have all sorts of problems, lucky against us, Lucky against Man United as if the home side would have taken their chances it could have been 5 or 6, the Reading game and the midweek draw after being two up. Wilshere will be missing and the Goners are very average at present. Fulham are no world beaters but at 6/1 is certainly a price that tempts me.

Notebook – Owen Coyle new Scotland boss 10/1

The one for the notebook this week is a bit of a punt. Scotland finally got rid of their manager last week and Gordon Strachan is favourite at 4/11 and will probably get the job but Owen Coyle is 10/1 and is worth a small investment and I know Gordon put a few noses out of joint when manager at Celtic and some people have long memories and it may go against him.

After tipping both our rivals to win let me say I am ashamed of myself but I am only here to try and pick a few winners.

The Pro

Winners so far:

Norwich v QPR, 11/10 Under 2.5 goals 24/08/12

West Brom v QPR, more than 2.5 goals, 4/5, 05/10/12

James Morrison to score anytime v QPR, 5/1, 05/10/12

QPR and Everton to draw 13/5, 18/10/12

QPR travel to Staffordshire on the back of a performance that left a lot to be desired against Reading. Not winning or even losing has always been acceptable to the QPR faithful, but lack of effort isn’t and won’t be and it is being shown in abundance at the moment by a number of mercenaries wearing the blue and white. Bosingwa was a disgrace last week, Traore didn’t fair much better and the one player who is always criticised for lack of effort in some quarters Taarabt was one of only a few (Mackie, Nelsen) who seemed to actually care. With that attitude, the last place you need to be going is fortress Britannia and with Mark Hughes spouting the same old lines since Sunday's debacle, I can see nothing but a Stoke win here.

That said, Stoke are no great shakes at the moment and being from the area I know the locals aren't enamoured with the Potters recent performances themselves. Stoke played out a terrible nil nil with Sunderland and lost to a set piece goal at vastly improving Norwich recently. QPR look like they couldn’t defend a set piece against a team of Oompa Loompa's at present and for this reason my bet of the week is the 'method of first goal' being a header. Available at 4/1 with 188bet, this looks a massive price based on what has been witnessed recently. I'd rather have Franz Ferdinand at centre half other than his namesake and Huth, Shawcross and Crouch must be rubbing their hands in anticipation. Get your money on - it might make the long journey home via London Midland a bit more bearable...
