Lee Trundle has admitted for the first time that it would have been easy to remain in Swansea and in his "comfort zone" after the club are rumoured to have almost matched his wages that he is receiving at Bristol City.

The papers are quoting that the club offered an estimated £10,000 a week to keep Trundle at Swansea although nothing has been confirmed from the club or the player himself. However, Trundle still harbours international aspirations and says that he would never have forgiven himself had he not taken the step up to Championship level

"Swansea made a very strong case that they wanted to keep me and I could have stayed there in the comfort zone," said Trundlen in the Western Mail

"But I would have never forgiven myself if I had not taken this chance to step up and play at a higher level.

"I wanted to play in the Championship and do myself justice - it was something I just had to do.

"I knew this could be my last chance. I couldn't risk looking back at the end of my career and blaming myself for blowing my big chance.

"I believe in my ability and I still think I can win my first cap with the Republic at the age of 30.

"That was one of the reasons I came here because if I can score 20 goals in the Championship, maybe I won't be overlooked again.

"I know I will score goals in this league and now I'm just looking forward to playing in the Championship."

Trundle notched his first goal in the red of Bristol City in Saturday's 2-2 draw with Yeovil and also set up the late equaliser in from of just over 3,000 fans

"It was good to get out there in front of the home crowd and obviously nice to get a goal.

"I received a nice surprise phone call from the gaffer (Gary Johnson) in the morning telling me I could play.

"I just wanted to get out there and play football because that's what I love doing. Hopefully, this is a good start for me.

"I don't usually score the tap-ins, but I'd certainly take a few of them this season.

"The gaffer's been trying to get me here for a while now and as a player that gives you confidence.

"When a manager puts that faith in you it gives you strength. I've come here to repay him and that's what I'll do."
