Scotland Waits For Full Fitness
Scotland Waits For Full Fitness

Incredibly Jason Scotland was sill talking about reaching full fitness as he basked in the glory of his first Championship goal

Scotland opened his account for the season on Saturday when he struck home inside the near post a minute before half time to give the Swans victory at Plymouth.

It was the least the Swans deserved at the end of a half that they dominated and the goal moved them up to 7th place in the Championship table and looking up at the top places.

It was Scotland's first of the season and his 30th in Swansea colours - following on from the 29 last season that earned him numerous recognitions in his first season at the club.

And incredibly, the striker says he is yet to reach full fitness - a confession that comes hot on the heels of him admitting that he never got there last season either.   It definitely begs the question what could happen if he does reach that level and how will defenders cope with the prolific marksman.

Speaking to the Western Mail, Scotland said “I’m probably still two games or two weeks from getting there, but I’m starting to feel good now and I’m recovering fast.

“But there’s definitely more to come from me in terms of my game and my goals.

“I’m still getting to my peak, but I will get there because this is a division I really want to prove myself in.

“I already feel a lot stronger, the programme set for me was to help me lose a little bit of weight, but also to get me quicker and stronger and that’s important because I have to be able to hold on to the ball and bring other people into the game.

“It’s a big role for the team and, if the ball comes to me, I have the responsibility to bring quality players into the game.

“You have to work hard to do that and it’s not easy because there are good defenders in this league, tougher players you come up against.

“People say it’s all good I have scored goals in League One, but this is the big league where I have to show it. I have already promised myself I will prove people wrong and it’s a good start.

“But hopefully we can all carry on and it’s good to get that first goal – but the lads have already said there’s 28 to go for me!”
