Captain Garry Monk is set for a return to the first team when Swansea travel to Reading on Boxing Day

The former Southampton and Torquay defender hasn't played since the 2-0 win at Scunthorpe in October due to a calf injury, but is closing in on a return to the side.

While Saturday's game at Sheffield Wednesday is likely to come too soon, the Christmas fixture at now managerless Reading is the date penned for Monk's comeback.

In his absence, the Swans have struggled defensively, keeping just two clean sheets and conceding eight goals in six games.

"They told me I could now press on and I'm hoping to be back training with the lads by the end of the week." he told the Evening Post.
