![]() Friday, 25th Dec 2009 13:46 The Weston Homes Community Stadium sounds like it should be on Kingsclere Avenue, but it is in Colchester Saints make their first ever visit to the Weston Homes Community Stadium the home of Colchester United since their move from Layer Road in 2008. A definate improvement from their old home where the away end was the worst facility for a travelling fan in the entire league. The WHCS is a 10,000 seater ground, in truth pretty much what you would expect from a new built stadium, consisting of four seperate stands with the main one being a little bigger than the others. Saints supporters will be situated in the South Stand which can hold up to 1,800 and has a steep incline meaning excellent site lines of the pitch with the feeling you are right on top of the action. How to Get There After taking the M25 and then the A12 towards Colchester, you stay on the A12 and by pass Colchester after passing the stadium on your right, leave the A12 at Junction 29, which is the intersection with the A1232 & A120. At the roundabout at the end of the slip road take the exit signposted A12 London & Colchester Business Park. Then take the first left into Severalls Industrial Estate and then left again into the Business Park. At the next roundabout turn right into the Crescent and at the next one, turn right into Severalls Lane. At the next roundabout turn left into Axial Way and then straight onto into United Way for the stadium. There are 600 car parking spaces at the stadium which cost £5. There is also an extensive residents only parking scheme in operation around the stadium, so you may need to journey to over a mile away, before you can find a legitimate parking space. Parking places at the stadium seem to be in short supply. Also, cars in the club car park are held back after the game to allow pedestrians to get away first, delaying your departure, In addition there are a number of local businesses in the area also offering parking for around £5'. As you are going through the business park to get to the ground there is a factory on the right hand side called the Lubina Kitchen Company. It costs £3 to park there and was really easy to get out of after the game. It is approximately a 10 minute walk away from the stadium.' There seem to be no parking restrictions, north of the bridge over the A12.' Some visiting supporters have also parked near to Coolchester North Station and used the free shuttle bus to the ground taking advantage of the pubs in the area of the station BY TRAIN The nearest station to the ground is Colchester North which is just under two miles away from the stadium. Located near to the station at Bruff Close is a free shuttle bus service that will take you to the ground. It takes around 10 minutes to reach the stadium Drinking Etc With the ground being on the outskirts of Colchester, there are few pubs in the near vicinity of the WHCS, the nearest being the Dog & Partridge that will usually not admit fans with away colours on. Some away supporters have parked by Colchester North Station and got the free shuttle bus in, using the pubs near to the Station, this seems to be a good ption, given the lack of parking within 10-15 mins of the ground, with an average crowd of around 5,300 the travel time by this bus shouldnt be more than about 10 mins meaning that it could be just as quick as parking and walking.
