United To Offer Marcos Rojo In Exchange For Fonte Tuesday, 16th Aug 2016 23:06 Latest media link from the Jorge Mendes & Manchester United PR machine suggests that Saints are about to be offered Marcos Rojo as part of the Jose Fonte deal.
The whisper on the street is that all of the stories in the media regarding Jose Fonte's move to Manchester United are being fuelled by super agent Jorge Mendes who of course apart from being Jose Mourinho's agent and close friend is also Jose Fonte's
Although it is likely that Mendes is merely placing the rumours to secure a higher deal for his client that the new contract Saints have placed on the table, it is never the less a distraction that Saints do not need and the whisper in footballing circles is that Fonte's emission from the side on Saturday was more about his mental fitness than physical and harks back to the troubles we had with Wanyama a year ago.
The latest news is that United are willing to trade Marcos Rojo for Jose Fonte.
Rojo was signed for £16 million from Sporting Lisbon two years ago and although he is primarily a central defender, he can also play at left back and as a winger and if true this deal could have some interest for Saints.
In some respects Rojo could be a perfect fit for Saints, at 26 he is much younger than Fonte and although his value will have dropped with the mixed time he has had at Old Trafford, however he is still an experienced international with 49 caps to his name for Argentina and more to come.
Saints fans might not like the suggestion that Fonte might leave, but a deal of this kind would be very tempting for Saints and could represent very good business, perhaps Rojo is not the right player for Saints, but the club cannot have too much more patience with the transfer window nearing closure, they need to either be signing Fonte up or sorting out plan B.

Fonte isn't our main man at centre back. Virgil is. I say get rojo.we tried getting him before man u got him anyway. His value can only go up.

While I'm sceptical about this rumour being true, a swap of Rojo for Fonte would be a great result for Saints provided wages were on a par. Rojo's form clearly suffered during Van Gaal's tenure and he has got at least 5-7 years in the tank while Jose might have another 18 months at this level. Of greater need though is an attacking midfielder or creative forward.

Good shout amsterdamsaint, but no mention of Morgan leaving or wanting to leave Man U in the news. I guess something out of the blue is not unheard of though. I Don't want Fonte to go, but tired of it now. If he was staying surely we would know by now, given how social media can be used. Saints and Virgil would get the best from Rojo I'm sure, so Fonte for Rojo, Morgan and 2 Million, or is that a little greedy.

Amsterdamsaint - now that is an idea. I wonder if Morgan thinks that he made a mistake moving (besides the $$). If he wants to play for France again, he needs to get playing time, since being a bench warmer at MU is doing nothing for him. As for Rojo, I would take him, but I think his ego is gotten big since he moved to MU. He would think our team is a step backwards, since his agent is probably telling him that he can transfer to a BIG club for serious money. I agree with Rednose that it is time to make a decision and if Fonte wants to leave to be a bit player at MU and they are offering Rojo plus cash, then make the deal and move on. Still time in the tranfer window to find some players, but we will need to spend some money to get good ones.

P.S. - Font for only 10 million is NOT goes business. Ashley Williams went for 12 and Fonte is better than him (per all the Statistic websites). I would not take anything less than 15 million for Fonte. Make MU pay for him since Arsenal also want him, according to the "trusted" media.

Some good reasons why this would be a good deal; he is younger, faster and more versatile than Fonte. But, is he a better player? It seems he fell out with VG at Utd after turning up late from the Copa America, where he was a losing finalist for Argentina. I do like the idea of him and spiderman and cash though! Wiki says "According to Four Four Two, Rojo was more comfortable at left-back rather than centre-back in his first season at Sporting, due to a number of positional errors and mistimed tackles; in his second season, his speed helped him in defence. They also attributed a good aerial threat to him, while noting that disciplinary problems remained. In addition to his usual positions at centre-back and left-back, Rojo can play as a winger. On signing for Manchester United, it was theorised that he could feature as a wing-back in Louis van Gaal's preferred 3-5-2 formation.

I wouldn't pander to his agent's wants. Tell Utd where to stick their unwanted player and, if Fonte wants to go, do a deal with Arsenal for Chambers.

I think Rojo looks like a player that always has the potential for one bad mistake per game...and we have already got one of those! I would have liked to think that we could expect a return from Gardos who I thought looked to have the makings of a decent player before getting crocked. Anyone know what the up to date status of this forgotten man is currently? On the Rojo front, I think I too would probably prefer Schneiderlein by a long chalk (tho' I think it rather unlikely and would still require us to bring in another centreback) or Chambers(?) as suggested above.

I would be unimpressed with a move for Rojo. He would most likely treat a move to Saints as a failure having turned us down to go to Man U and there have already been question marks about his attitude. He is probably on a wage that is acceptable to his ego (at least 70k/wk ?). He has obvious talent but does he have the commitment to knuckle down and make a move to Saints work? Overall he seems like an unnecessary risk
