Gaps in the Swansea City squad that are getting bigger Friday, 6th Jan 2023 11:10 by Swansea Independent There does seem to be what can only be described as a poor methodology when it comes to bringing in players to the Swansea City squad on loan. Now Armstrong Oko-Flex has been recalled by his parent club West Ham United - and with Fin Stevens already back in Brentford we see another two players bite the dust in the Swansea City loan transfer road show. It’s understandable that Russell Martin would want his own players, but he has utilised the loan market positively, not least this season with Luke Cundle but really that isn’t good enough when you then add Matt Sorinola, a fourth player on loan this season to the tally. Cundle has been excellent, nobody would counter that, Sorinola not so effective, and that to an extent is being kind. There seems to be little risk of Cundle being recalled by Wolves, and unless Sorinola is still not over whatever issues he was encountering a few weeks ago his return to Union SG in Belgium is unlikely. There is business about to be settled, but as we stated yesterday it’s the finer detail that is causing a few issues, nothing insurmountable, but we still believe the two permanent transfers Martin really wants and two loans could well be in before the next league game. It’s a big ask, but sometimes we have to ask big to gear up for the remainder of the season. Armstrong returning to West Ham wasn’t a surprise, mot was pretty much cast in stone and it’s a long way from these comments he made on coming to Swansea. “I also spoke to the manager before I came and he spoke about wanting to help me develop. I wanted to come somewhere where a team wanted to have possession, have the ball and give players a chance to show what they can do. ![]() Oko-Flex has returned to West Ham Interestingly as well Jamie Paterson has received some interest from his home town club Coventry City. Speaking to sources yesterday he hasn’t had the responses he would maybe have expected now it’s clear the swans no longer require his ‘services’ The thirty one year old caused the club untold issues when he was featuring ( or let’s say not featuring ) in a down tools effort to get more money out of the club. When he did get his increased contract we saw nothing from him to inspire the club or team mates. His contract expires at the end of next season so Coventry or whoever will have to step up with some money as well. Michael Obafemi, Ryan Manning and Joel Latibeaudiere are all to be resolved either way over the coming ten days. The latter remarkably believing his own press, the former is clearly one of the most confused men at the club and Manning the only real player worth scrapping for from that trio. It may not be a busy transfer window to date, but as we have said already behind the scenes it’s the busiest for years. ![]() Photographs licensed from Reuters ©Swansea City AFC Please report offensive, libellous or inappropriate posts by using the links provided.
