The issue isn’t that clear on Duff’s Swansea future ( Fans poll result )
Thursday, 21st Sep 2023 07:00 by Liam Walters

Swansea City head in to Saturdays game against Sheffield Wednesday with a number of conundrums facing the club after seven games and no wins. Manager Michael Duff seems to be on the cusp of either a resignation or sacking, and the players are under performing across the board.

The reaction to Michael Duff’s football hasn’t been good, and despite a point away at a very poor QPR and two home draws against Birmingham City and Coventry City things are looking grim so early on in the season. The issue is the lack of footballing ability which seems to have been sucked out of the side since the season started. That alongside a change in tactics from the ‘extreme’ way the Swans have been playing under Russell Martin. With a big turnaround in personnel under the guidance of Sporting Director Paul Watson nothing seems to be ticking at this moment in time. Goals are scarce and the drive and determination to create chances during matches is most certainly absent. The draw at QPR on Tuesday evening highlighted that.

Swansea Independent have conducted a poll over the last thirty six hours on the fans feelings on Michael Duff and his future at the club. The poll is still open but with well over a hundred votes in it’s a very good insight in to the general feeling on Duff. These votes have been scrutinised and all are from registered users of the website, and all are from individual accounts not duplicated within our systems. Swansea Independent isn’t driven by what is referred to as ‘bots’ which interfere with site views and visits. They also distort factual information giving a false impression of the success or otherwise of a topic or post, and people physically on a forum at any one time. To post and respond to anything on our football forum you have to be physically registered, and we carry out weekly tracking of users and new registrations. For every new user we expel ten bots or account applications attached to spamming websites.

It’s interesting that just over forty percent of voters want him to remain in situ until he proves his worth as Swansea head coach. We placed no time stipulation on that, so he and the club can place some faith that all is not lost across the fanbase. Just over thirty eight percent want him sacked now, with just over nine percent happy to wait until Saturday. The remainder are happy to wait until the November international break to make a decision. That means that over half of those voting want him to be given more time.

This is where the noise of social media can at times distort public opinion. The throw away comments seen this week from a lot of Swansea fans would point to an immediate sacking. Or is it that the more vociferous of the fan base are using social media more to get their point across ? Either way, irrespective of the percentages, and let’s be honest football managers love a stat - to have a fifty forty split on your future after such a short time in charge should also concern the club.

The voting remains open for registered accounts and confirmed users of the website until Friday evening. By clicking the link below you can also read fans reaction to this latest poll.

Personal I don't like his style of football whatever that suppose to be? Whatever he did in league one worked but the championship is a different ball game! In my opinion I can't see it getting better because it seems the player's are confused! Ashley Williams sumed it up on Tuesday night when he stated, "I can't see what style of play Duff is trying to implicate" (paraphrase!)! I've noted the keeper is kicking the long balls where the typical game as we Jack's know is player out from the back! I have to ask myself am I being over critical? I don't think so because I don't like what I'm seeing!

It’s a complete sea change in style and tactics.
It’s simply not working.
