![]() Monday, 1st Feb 2010 15:25 Derby County have finalised the loan signing of Manchester City youngster Javan Vidal. The versatile midfielder / defender joins the Rams for the remainder of the 09/10 season.
The 6 foot, right footer is described as being as comfortable on the right of midfield as he is in defense. With Nicky Hunt doing the job at right back and with Lee Johnson likely to return to Bristol permanently, Vidal's signing may release Paul Green from the right wing and return him to central midfield. Nigel Clough spoke to the official site about adding the talented youngster to his squad: "Javan is a very talented young player and we are grateful to City for allowing him to come here". "It gives us quality cover in a couple of positions and we believe he will fit right in with the mentality and culture we are looking to introduce to our squad." Born in Manchester, Vidal was signed by City in 2008 and was nearly immediately loaned to Grimsby. Making his professional debut in the Football League Trophy for Town, he made his League debut against Gillingham as a substitute. In total he played only five games in his short stay at Grimsby before returning to City only to join Aberdeen on loan in the SPL. Making his debut for Aberdeen against the powerful Glasgow Rangers as a second half substitute, Javan was instrumental as they held on for nil all draw. Vidal has been capped at under-19's level, and selected for the under-20 international friendly against Italy on 31 March 2009, playing the full 90 minutes and helping England to a 2–0 victory. A late call up for the under-20 international friendly against Montenegro in August of 2009, Vidal impressively set up the first goal of their 5-0 victory and ended up playing for the full 90 minutes. Jim Cassell said of Vidal in 2008: "Jav reminds me of Earl Barrett in many ways - he's a rubber man who bounces all over the place with great athleticism. He's played for England under 19s this year and, like the rest of the lads, he will benefit immensely from playing alongside senior players". As Javan joins Derby County on loan many other rumors are flying about on deadline day including: A permanent move (yes one with a signing fee an all!!) for Millwall winger Dave Martin (A done deal worth £200,000 according to therams.co.uk). An offer for Plymouth forward (and Ram-slayer) Jamie Mackie. Loan deals for Stoke midfielder Michael Tonge and Arsenal teenager Gilles Sunu. Rob Hulse could also be on the way to Middlesbrough (Again!!?? …. go away!!) and Burnley who, from some reports, has already had a loan offer rejected. Stoke may have also been interested in Hulse but also in a loan capacity but unless a permanent deal is struck, Rob is likely to still be a Rams player at 5:01pm tonight. DJ Campbell and Lee Johnson have returned Leicester City and Bristol City respectively but with the emergency loan window re-opening in a week’s time, we may not yet have seen the last of either. RamZone will bring you detailed information about any new signings if and when they happen before the window shuts for 09/10.
