Merseyside’s Ben Speedie gets his first QPR game, and first ever Championship appointment, on Tuesday night as the R’s head north to Hull.

School teacher Ben Speedie moved out of the National League onto the EFL list for 2020/21 when he did 29 games with 78 yellow cards (2.689) and five reds across Leagues One and Two. That featured Hull’s last minute 3-2 defeat at Blackpool in League One. In 2021/22 he showed 96 yellows (2.9) and four reds through 33 appointments in the bottom two divisions and then 139 (3.86) and six in 36 games through 2022/23. Last season he showed 111 yellows (3.08) and four reds across 36 games.

Tuesday’s game between Hull and QPR is this referee’s first at Championship level. He’s shown 80 yellows (3.33) so far this season in 24 games, and one red card which came last week as Leyton Orient punted Derby out of the FA Cup on penalties.
