Rams Add Five For The Future!
Rams Add Five For The Future!
Thursday, 8th Jul 2010 15:17 by Daniel J Sewart

Derby County have signalled they are looking to the future by securing the signatures of five academy products on professional contracts.

The Rams will be hoping they have nurtured their very own ‘famous five’ (minus Timmy the dog!) with the addition of the players to the first team squad.

A good spread of positions has been covered with keeper James Severn, defender Kallum Keane, midfielders Jeff Hendrick and Graham Kelly plus striker Ryan Connolly.

Fans will already be aware of Severn, Hendrick and Connolly who made their way into the squad last campaign when injuries were high and bench spaces needed filling.

Nigel Clough spoke to the official site about the clubs newest signings:

"We are pleased all five have signed professional terms with us and we look forward to seeing them develop further during the forthcoming season".

Kelly, Connolly and Hendrick have impressed at international level by being capped at youth level for the Republic of Ireland while Severn has represented England youth (watch out Calamity & Mr.Green!).

It is an exciting development for the club and its fans with the Academy producing players worthy of the chance to take the next step. The addition of youth and depth to the squad for the coming season will be invaluable especially if the injury list goes even close to that of last season.

As we head towards the first whistle, it is easy to focus on the possibility of signing a well known player or one with exciting potential. But the fact that the feel good story of the season could come from within would be all the more satisfying.

On behalf of all here at RamZone and every single Derby County fan, all the best boys… do the Rams proud!
