Strange one this. Think the club should have done more though. To be fair to the council they have many issues facing them and have a budget that has been decimated. The club on the other hand have an income that is growing each year and surely have the stronger hand to deal with the council and get this sorted sooner rather than later.

To say the club doesn't pay rent is technically true but we are paying a fair percentage of gate receipts, its the way the council set it up.... The club has really put Swansea on the map and those in tourism have to have a major knock on effect plus keeping 400 people in work has major benefits to the city.

TBH. Neither party nshould be dishing dirt in public . everyone should be pulling in the same direction for the greater good of the city, the amount of revenue the football is bring into swansea is estimated at around 30m a year, so you would think that the council would want to help bolster the local economy not fook it up any further than they have done(destroying the city centre etc)
It smacks of short term thinking and not for the first time !
There is obviously a major sticking point but ffs work through it and benifit the city and its people !

What's sad about this is that Huw's comments in the programme were quite mild. The council could have responded in kind. Something like:
"We agree that expanding the Liberty is an important objective for the football club and the city as a whole. While the council have approved the planning permission and facilitated the sale of a parcel of land, there remain many issues to resolve when such a complicated and major piece of work is planned. As a council, we are taking our responsibilities to all our residents very seriously. We look forward to sitting down with the club directors and moving this project forward as quickly as possible."
Instead they try to point score by referring to the building of the stadium (nothing to do with those running the council today), not receiving any income from the Swans (very misleading to the average resident), and referencing one cancelled meeting. Good on the club for refusing to be dragged into a war of words. |  |

Without large scale public pressure (and I can't see that), it's very possible to foresee no future expansion because of the asshole factor. Plus trying to get all parties to actually agree a revised financial arrangement, even if the planning issues were sorted?. Won't the council and the Ospreys see us as a big dripping roast? | |

Lets face it, the council built the stadium in the first place to secure the Rugby franchise, we are a happy by-product. Now, it seems to me the Swans is one of a very few economic success stories in the region.
Time the council allowed further expansion by allowing us to buy the stadium. They can the use the money to fund other things.
Obviously the "behind closed doors" approach is failing. Let everything come out in the open. Dish any dirt. Name names. Get everything clarified. Then move on and make a deal in the full view of public scrutiny.
Lets not imagine then SWEP is in any way independent what with the constant articles they run by council leaders past and present. |  |

Ah , but you have got to remember that the average Swansea City councilor is as thick as pig-shit and has the foresight and ambition as a retarded garden gnome. Swansea has been described as 'The graveyard of ambition',when it comes to our civic leaders it just shows what a fecking unimaginative and near sighted bunch of cretins they really are. This a council that promised that Swansea would have a 'European Boulevard' as a major attraction when entering the city,which turned out to be a few fancy paving stones and a few tweaks to the road layout or the abomination that was the Kingsway that ruined a couple of business's and led to fatalities, just to accommodate a fleet of glorified bendy buses that have been withdrawn as they are uneconomical to run. I think there is little bit of jealousy that the club is well run and prudent whereas the council is anything but that. |  |

The wholly inadequate car parking site, adjacent to Morrison's is being leased to the club at what cost I don't know. Who gets all those £6's though?
I completely agree that PL football is the biggest asset the Council has, however, they are, (so are all Swansea residents) being hit with massive cut backs needed just to balance the books.
That said stifling the expansion of the Stadia makes no economic sense at all. With the obscene monies every PL clubs are going to receive at the end of the season, we need to look at buying their stake in the club once and for all, with £30M being the figure touted around. Most of the infrastructure completed it will make this plausible enough.
