Article on BBC News just now about the killing of a teenager in Londonderry by a British soldier in 1972 referred to Londonderry as Derry three times without mentioning Londonderry at all. What is the official BBC strategy on this rather touchy topic?
I was in Derry 3 weeks ago. Nobody there refers it as anything other than Derry, even though many of the road signs list it as Londonderry, many of which have been 'adapted' with blue paint to show the name as Derry.
It's an insult to anyone in NI to not refer to it as Derry.

Its Derry cos all the people who live there call it Derry. ðŸ€ðŸ’š
May as well call it Madridderry as Londonderry. Nobody uses that name.
Used to be 50% Protestant but now mainly Catholic. Some say Derry, County Londonderry. Calling it Stroke City used to be an old weak joke. One of the maddest nights I ever had was there on Halloween night in the mid-nineties.
I didn't know fancy dress was a big thing there but soon found out on the train from Belfast with ordinary people going into the train toilets and coming out dressed as whatever. Next morning I woke up in a hotel corridor, which was strange as I hadn't booked a room.
BBC NEWS STYLE GUIDE “Derry The city and county are Londonderry. The city should be given the full name at first reference, but Derry can be used later. The local council is Derry City Council.”

Government advice is (or at least was when I used to do that sort of thing) is that any letters addressed to Derry must be addressed “Derry/Londonderry”. Which always struck me as odd cos it guaranteed that you’d piss someone off every time.

Loh - take a look at the Sinead O’Connor version on YouTube.
You will love the third verse .... ðŸ€ðŸ’š
There is no third verse, she tacked that on.
The most moving rendition I’ve heard of that isn’t on a record, a tenor was singing it at the Ulster Tower on the Somme as poppy petals floated down around him back in the 80’s. It made all the hairs on my neck stand up. It was extraordinary.
By the way, you know it was written by an Englishman from the west country don’t you?
An idea isn't responsible for those who believe in it.

Go there regular enough as wife is from Donegal and Derry is a shit hole. Whenever I go there, i always have an uneasy feel about the place. Another place I went was Omagh and told the wife that I have a strange feel about the street I was walking on......to be told that this is the street where the bombings happened, infact the actual place the bomb went off.
