I got hooked going to Wembley Lions in the 70's. Also went to White City.
It was the Speedway GP last night at Cardiff. Won by a Brit, Dan Bewley, for the first time since 2007. Not that you'd know if you relied on the BBC for your news. Absolutely nothing, zero, nada. |  | | |  |

I remember my dad telling me he used to go to White City back in the day, is that 50s 60s?
Also, he said as a spectacle it suffered when everyone went front foot forward, before is was a mixture of broadsiders & front foot forward.

White City would have been 70's.
Ole Olsen - used to hate it if he was in the opposition team. Always seemed to pick up a maximum. Probably the best rider I saw in my days going.
Anyone remember the Flying Finn, Kai Neimi? Use to literally throw the bike around the track. An absolute nutter of a rider when he was with White City. | | | |

Yes was a regular at Wembley Lions, I remember all those names you mentioned, plus many more who rode for Wembley. Notably the great Ove Fundin, admittedly at the end of his career, also Gote Nordin, two excellent Swedes. I went to a lot of away matches as well. Belle Vue, with Peter Craven, Ivan Mauger,, then Peter Collins, plus many others. The Boocock brothers, Anders Michanek, Ronnie Moore, Ray Wilson, I saw all these whilst I lived in Wembley. My girlfriend lived in Barking so we then went to watch Hackney, but it was never the same. In fact last year I bumped into Dave Jessup who is still involved with bikes, we had a quick chat as we were both filling up with petrol. He lives in Shorne Kent about a mile away from me. | | | |

Would get 20,000+ at Wembley in the two seasons it came back. Forced out by the stadium owners as they would rather stage the poxy Horse of the Year show and thus could not guarantee the Lions enough race dates. I remember the "wonderful" Evening Standard had a brief paragraph about it. Could you imagine the uproar if that had happened to a football team getting that sort of attendance? | | | |

I was a Swindon fan for a few years in the 1960s - home and away. Remember seeing the late Tadeusz Teodorowich beat the late great Peter Craven, to draw a Saturday night match at Belle Vue Manchester, then riding home through the night after fish and chips. Remember seeing the Russians in a test match at Wembley and on regional tracks. Briggs v Fundin many times. Briggs winning the world Championship at Wembley. Lots of fun. | | | |
