One for the more tactically-minded: is 433 / 4231 the issue? From memory, we were awful under McLaren playing 4 at the back, as we were under Warburton when arrived. We switched to 3 centrebacks and things seem better.
I am not suggesting this is what we should do - recruitment has been made for fullbacks not wingbacks. However, this might explain some of the questionable play we've seen as players coming off a short preseason get their heads around their new responsibilities in the system.
Either that or we're shit, going to hell in a hand cart, couldn't make it up, etc.
