Now this could make things interesting, especially if it has teeth.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Forcing clubs to live within their means on it's own would be a big deal. Should drive wages and transfer fees down as clubs simply couldn't afford to meet players demands.

We're already doing pretty well along those lines, but teams dependent upon heavy subsidy from ownership would have to slash costs massively.

FFP was supposed to go a long way towards that but failed. Legally it will be interesting if this can be taken out of football's control and regulated by a government. How will the British supporter feels if their team is no longer successful in Europe if they are playing by different rules.

Fair point, insomuch as you can't have say PSG having very wealthy owners ploughing billions in and winning everything when Man City have equally wealthy owners but them only being allowed to live within its means, level playing field.
We have always lived within our means, found a different way to compete, and that's what PSG and Man City need to do but I suspect with Newcastle joining the mega rich and Man U about too, it'll be a free for all.

Clubs are businesses and should be regulated so spending cheat’s don’t benefit.
But, the idea of a regulator to prevent clubs joining a European League is so typically tory … extolling a 'free market' yet limiting the market, claiming things they like and that support them should be self regulating (media and the city) but clamping down on anything that shows a degree of independence.
And, of course it is Europe!
Can’t wait for the super league with clubs leaving the PL and creating a fairer financial situation in what remains.

Football must be treated as a business and therefore operate on a level playing field. This was the principle of the European Union. How Real Madrid and PSG have been allowed to break the rules is due to a lack of examination by the authorities. A form of corruption I suggest.

Governments were not allowed to interfere in private companies. UK Government had to justify any subsidy payments to British Steel for example. USA and Boeing went to court to try and prevent Airbus government assistance.

The Man city purchase was probably a deal cobbled together after Abu Dhabi bailed out Barclays bank in 2009-2010. Waved through perhaps. Newcastle is being used for Saudi Sports washing and this is convenient for the UK Government in leveling out wealth to the north of England. (political interference)

The trouble is someone like Abramovic can point out to the notional profit he made with Chelsea over 20 years or so. He bought it for £150 m spent a billion or two on ludicrous transfers and wages and still astonishingly came out with a notional profit after selling the club for £2.5 billion. I have to research who bought it and their business plan. Have they grossly overpaid?

(Trust criticism - please bypass next three paragraphs if it causes irritation) The Swansea city

Supporters Trust's lack of common sense is one major argument not for putting fans on the board because their principles were not sound, their constitution, was not sound and the checking of individual members was not sound. The leadership did not have their collar felt by members went along for the ride.

When one board member said in "Our shares are not for sale and never will be" he was honest to a constitution that did not recognise the event of a 10,000%+ gain in valuation. Their value had gone from £200,000 to £21,000,000. One would think under normal circumstances any normal investor would be extremely keen to sell at that point.

The members all 1000+ of them did not press him on this and force a change in approach. It was the members responsibility to do the best for the Trust. Sadly no one was bothered because it was not their cash. It is similar to the failing economy of Cuba. Noting to buy or sell in the shops because there is no aspect of personal gain. Communism in short. Fans know best is a convenient myth.

There is nothing 'free market' about the Premier league. Liverpool are starting to creak and looking for fresh capital and Man Utd up for sale and unable to compete. Now 2 Sovereign wealth funds owning Man city and Newcastle and Chelsea formerly funded by an oligarch mired in international politics. Man City takeover occurred under Gordon Brown

No Swansea fan should want to be outside a closed shop. Jenkins and co proved Swansea could beat the best on a good day when good managers and good recruitment aligns with at decent academy output. 10 years ago. "Failed roofer defeats Oligarch".
