Could This Be Russell Martin's Last Game ? 09:03 - Nov 24 with 803 viewsSaintNick

A heavy defeat would surely do for him as Saints manager, we can't go on doing the same things and getting the same results

It is hard to say isn't it Nick. I kind of feel that if the change was going to be made it would have been made before this recent break but as thing stands we are heading for our season being all but over by the New Year and it will take something monumental to change it around even with a change of manager. What is holding up is the support - am I right in thinking that the Christmas period games are already sold out......or as near as damn it?

I am going today but I wonder why having made the long journey down in awful weather. I am not sure I will continue doing this if there is nothing to play for once we get to January - I appreciate that may make me seem like a fair weather supporter but when money is tight and you make the effort you want to at least feel your team will and can compete.

I hope we all get a shock surprise and result today.......it is always the hope.......like entering the lottery!

With respect.
It's nothing like the lottery.
At least you've got a chance of winning the lottery.

I genuinely think regardless of today’s result RM is here for this season and the start of next. Sports Republic will be looking at it as a project. Russ is their guy to take it forward and this is all part of the learning.
We’ll get relegated, fans will renew season tickets as we will be expected to challenge for promotion straight back, nothing will force them to change tack.

You have to question what ambition the owners have. As you say lose heavily and that has to be it surely ? If this happens they would have to change it to give us any chance of survival ,if they don’t then to me it’s saying they are planning for the championship which makes no sense whatsoever.

Even now I can’t see 3 teams that will finish below us .

Poll: Would you take an Fa Cup win if it meant relegation to the championship ?

Amen to that, brother.

I always want Saints to win but a HUGE silver lining if we get tonked today will be if that deluded bastard gets fired.

I’m not making a 5 hour round trip to watch that pathetic tippy tappy kamkaze football.

SR sacked Hasenhuttl after 14 games and 12 points and that was too late - up 'til today we've played 11 games with 4 points. That season looks like a good one in comparison to this.

No chance. We're stuck with this deluded manager and this deluded board.

There is nothing in their track record to suggest that they will suddenly make a good decision.

They must be bit thick if they can't see that the old possession style of football has been well and truly found out and that we need to play a more effective style in future. Successful teams now use a fast counterattacking style which is far more effective than the outdated possession style we are still persevering with. Successful teams now only use the posssession game in patches to run down the clock or to take a breather during games.

Spot on - hence Man City's 5 loses in a row? Have we seen the death of possession football?

I don't think he'll be gone even after a thumping.

Let's look at it realistically, we need a much better manager to get a tune out of this squad particularly the attack. Where are we going to find that manager with relegation all but guaranteed? I have no confidence in Sport Republic making the right choice with a replacement.

In addition sport Republic in their wisdom gave Russell Martin a new contract in the summer meaning it's probably going to cost more than £10m to replace Martin and his backroom team. This would severely limit the amount of funds we had to spend on players in the next transfer window for any new manager.

As much as it pains me to say I would accept that we’re relegated, keep Martin in charge in the hope that somehow he'll pull off a miracle and then have a good clear out of manager and players ready for a promotion push next season.

Whilst most experienced Premier League managers would steer well clear of us, van Nistelrooy and Carsley would take the job. They'd see promotion next season and establishing us back in the Premier League after that as a step towards a job at a big club.

The thing is they are available right now, but won't be for much longer.

Well

- It will not be harder to find a much better manager. Nathan Jones is a much better manager.

- There is no good reason why it would cost us £10m to sack him. Where did this £10m figure come from anyway? It's nothing official just whispers. The whispers are put out to give them an excuse for not sacking him.

- The sooner we get rid of this clown, the sooner we are back on the right track.

Is it overreacting or harsh to actually ‘hate’ a manager?

We'd willingly fork out £10 Mill on a mediocre player. What's stopping us bringing in a better manager and coaching staff. Plenty of bargains out there right now! Even the financial geniuses SR should recognise that. The clowns are incompetent at running a football club.

He should already be gone
And picking that team is good enough for the sack
