A turn of Frey's 13:34 - Mar 17 with 3614 viewsJules4367

At the start of the games he plays, I have noticed he runs and runs and puts in a lot of effort and I am not going to fault that.
However, at a point in each game, it is clear that his legs have gone, we can all see it and he becomes Harry Kane-ish (at the Euros or World Cup) whereby he simply jogs back and forth across the field with no pace, no pressing and, as with Kane, becomes a liability more than an asset.
I also do not understand what he is expected to do (this is NOT his fault) but time and again a long ball is played up to him for him to head on and yet there is seldom anyone there.
My questions therefore are why do we not take him off, when his legs have clearly gone? (I would even prefer Ashby running at people and pressing as opposed to a non-presence jogging around) and what are the tactics for him being alone and heading the ball to no-one?

A turn of Frey's on 16:36 - Mar 17 by Lblock

I’m a big fan of Frey

His movement in the box isn’t given the credit he deserves
It’s a shame he’s having to do it all and not just concentrate on getting into the box and finishing chances as we don’t create too many!

Michey gives 100%
He don’t get bullied
He’s got a turn of skill and can pass
Can finish but is probably a one in four man
People seem to only see a lack of pace - he brings other attributes. We do need much much much more pace in the side but I’m not going to criticise Frey for not having something he never did.

I’d 100% keep him for next season

....but take him off when his legs have gone as we are carrying him and even if we have a non-striker whose legs are fresh that is better than a striker whos legs cannot allow him to do anything!

I don't get what it is about Frey and his legs 'going'. Where the fcuk are they going, and why? He's 30, not 38, and in fact, according to his Wiki stats, he's played fewer than 300 games in his whole career (including barely 70 apps in 3 years with Royal Antwerp and his loan club before he rocked up in W12). Considering he told us humself when he arrived physical hustle/hard work is a big part of his game, take that away, and what have you got exactly? He's not exactly a technician or a fox in the box, is he?

It's the same thing with Andersen, who's the same age as Frey but looks (and often plays) like he's come out of retirement to take part in exhibition games.

I know we've been stretched in both positions, and I know one or both may have shown glimpses - Andersen looked fleetingly silky and swashbuckling when he arrived, and Frey's scored a smallish handful of goals - but surely Marti can see they're not what we need.

I'll say it again: Both need to be moved on in the summer and replaced with upgrades if we're to aspire higher than 16th for the first time in years!
