Because owners might take better care of their horses if they believed they could sell them for meat.
Makes perfect sense that you get top dollar for your top quality horse.
But would you eat horse?
A quick search on line revealed countless recipes for food using horse meat, mainly as a straight replacement for beef, pork, veal.
And you don't have to go that far back in history to know that horse meat was a staple part of human diet, and was also eaten as part of Germanic pagan religious ceremonies in northern Europe, particularly ceremonies associated with the worship of Odin.
Unsurprisingly, China eats more horse meat than any other country. Have to say that I have never tried it, nor do I have any plans to include it on my menu, but would you eat horse to ensure they were treated better (obviously prior to them being killed)? |  |
