In the week leading up to that NYE '88 Saints game, Martin Allen had, somewhat bizarrely, been linked with Man U.

When he mis-controlled that ball as mentioned in the write up, my mate shouted "just f off to United Allen!!!" - 5 seconds later he'd put the ball in the top corner.

We celebrated once home by drinking lots of cheap Thunderbird wine and going to an acid house do at Brixton Academy, where Todd Terry DJ'd from a tank.
