R's Away Support Today 19:31 - Jan 11 with 3289 viewsextratimeR

I listened today to Andy Sinton and Co-Commentator, ( sorry don't know name).
First thing, that support today was bloody amazing,( I thought it was a QPR Home game).

I obviously wasn't their today, but from Andy's broadcast I thought it was on a par with Villa away, 1968 and the legendary Oldham away game , (both games I was at).

Well done you lot magnificent support!

Great commentary from Andy and Co-commentator by the way!

It was good. My 7 year old was happy to stand on his seat throughout. Tough ground to get an atmosphere going but great scenes when we scored. A few young lads came flying down about three rows just behind me. Glad we had that moment. Shame we couldn't push a bit more for a winner but a good effort today from players and fans alike.

Don't get me started on the shambles that is getting away from that ground. Won't be going again unless it's for athletics

Was in the West Ham end, opposite our fans and it was an absolute pleasure to watch and hear us all game. Watching the limbs when we scored was unbelievable

Our fans were brilliant today - loud and proud in that utterly awful stadium. Rs fans turn up in great numbers on occasions like that. There's such a love and connection among us with our lovely West London club.

There were 10 of us there together. We had great fun before, during and after the game despite the result. Had we a full strength side playing, it would have been a different outcome.

That's an excellent point. I was wandering what he might be like doing a radio commentary.

I've been watching some of the Afcon, and not made it to half time. The commentators are truly awful. Constantly talking about inane and irrelevant facts, surpassed by some of the worst co-comms I've endured.

We're blessed with Tyler. We can speculate about how much Kolli or Buzz might fetch, but Tyler almost must get to the top. Genuinely think he's one of the best out there. Id actually like to hear him do a non-QPR fame to see how good he is.

Yep, had a quick chat with him too. Rumours that Lucas Andersen was there too but unsubstantiated.

Yeah saw photos of him on twitter, was there. Gallen was sat just behind us on the right in the upper tier. Gave him a few verses of Magic Hat in the 1st half. Left him alone after that haha.

Exhausted today from yesterday .
11 hour round trip collecting and meeting members of my family to get them to the game due to no national rail etc but , despite the result it was worth it .

Haven’t read anything but this thread since , but can’t tell you how proud I am of the team and that mammoth support yesterday . What a noise !
Been sent a couple of social media clips of the fans when we scored and it’s actually quite emotional. As a fan base we’ve been through some utter bilge and worse . Could always be worse of course but seeing that much joy from so many of us just makes me emotional.
Seeing the complete elation on family members faces too is something to always cherish.
Funny thing , football .

Tinge of disappointment too. They were there for the taking if we maybe had really gone for them or of course had anything like a full strength team .
Maybe been covered elsewhere or perhaps conversation for another thread but questions should be asked of our fitness department. What’s happening now is the opposite of what is now supposed to regarding the slow build etc of the squads overall fitness. Supposed to avoid injury now aren’t we? And why can’t any of our players do 90 minutes without looking total baggage .
Only my opinion but I think Williams and colleagues have a few questions to answer .

Anyway, without sounding like I’m happy in defeat, I thought we gave everything yesterday and just came up short on quality and fitness .
But I thought despite the result we should all be fairly proud of yesterday .

100% agree. The fitness of the squad is a scandal. We played really well but from 70 mins were gassed. Compare with many of the WHU players who had played Tuesday but powered through. Big, big questions about the conditioning of the squad, who are not only exhausted long before the end of games but constantly suffering muscle injuries to key players.

Their scorers cost a combined £51m (and are going to be relegated): maybe that fitness is what you pay for. Thought Bowen's engine was incredible.

Imagine having to go to and from that dog-awful ground 20-odd times a season. I'd just give up. It's a journey that takes about five minutes from Stratford station to the ground on a normal day, but is not built for 50k all arriving and leaving at the same time when you close all walking access points other than two roads. Joke. No wonder their fans are so miserable.

Compare with Loftus Road. Journey to and from ground always really easy and quick, even when roads closed for Millwall. And the sound of the place, the view. An Evertonian I know also says there are now two Evertons, the famous old Goodison Everton and the new Americanised soulless Everton. Says the view and seats are nice, but the soul is dead. He's seriously depressed about it having being excited: he's gonna give up his season ticket.

Cherish what we have.

Yes, I couldn’t agree more .

The ground and its infrastructure blew my mind.
Just imagine that fiasco and carnage every week?
You just wouldn’t go would you .

I think our fitness as a squad is a little embarrassing. I know we had to work hard yesterday and we did to a man . But players who can’t play 90 minutes ?
It’s shocking really .

That atmosphere was amazing. All the way from Stratford all you could hear was Rangers. And inside the ground? Just amazing - and I’m so glad we were given something to celebrate. That was all I was hoping from the day really.

When that goal went in I ended up a row or two in front of where I’d started and a geezer I didn’t even know helped haul me back up. We then proceeded to hug and continue celebrating. At times like that I love our silly little club more than anything in the world

Shit but local

I flew over from Dublin with my son for the day. We did our research beforehand and plotted accordingly. We flew into Heathrow, to take advantage of the direct Elizabeth Line from the airport to Stratford. We had breakfast in a Spoons close to the station, it was full at 10.30 with local fans, some of whom had clearly decided to load up with some anaesthetic early in the day. We then wandered through the East-Westfield to get to the Olympic Park and slid down the tallest slide in the world, which was great fun. We got into the stadium just after 1pm without any bother.

It was an absolute pleasure to join a choir of 9,000 at an away match. As others have alluded to, when both the team and fans turn up, it becomes a memorable experience. In the overall scheme of things, the result didn't matter. The team ran themselves into the ground and everyone can hold their heads up high as they gave everything to a man. That's all anyone can ask for. Sure, West Ham won eventually, but that's what should have happened and nobody is surprised by that. Were they there for the taking, yes. But that would have been against the run in play. How could that have happened? You look at moments, perhaps when individuals broke free down the wing and instinctively decided to shoot from a narrow angle rather than have a quick look up and pass the ball to someone square in front of the goal. I'm sure the coaching team will review what happened yesterday to see what could be improved on going forward. But I'm not going to criticise anyone from yesterday.

Getting home was an adventure. We were warned about hour plus queues to the Station, so left with a couple of minutes to go in Extra Time. We turned south outside the stadium and crossed on the bridge on the south side of the campus. We walked briskly and joined a much larger queue heading towards the station from another direction. We thankfully kept moving through the ticket barrier at the station onto the platform. We got on the first Elizabeth Line train out of Stratford, changed at Whitechapel and got on an Elizabeth Line train heading towards Heathrow at about 5.45pm or so. Job done, or so we thought.

An announcement on the train said there was a fire alongside the track further along our anticipated journey, so we were kicked off at Paddington. With a flight to catch, having already had to delay our exit from Statford due to Extra Time, this wasn't ideal. We decided to get the Hammersmith Line to Hammersmith, followed by the Picadilly Line to Heathrow, as we didn't know whether the fire would have impacted all mainline rail services to the airport. We eventually got there, but it was an adventure which could have gone horribly wrong had we been delayed getting onto our initial train.

Reading about people's experiences, I understand that some took 90 minutes from the end of the match to get onto a train. That's simply unacceptable.

It was a great day out and wonderful to see my son experience it too. I'm still subconsciously humming "Ya Ya Ya Yoooh" to myself at various times today. Long may it continue.

What a great account of your day trip.We left the Wetherspoons at Holborn at 1pm,thinking that we had loads of time, but my brother needed the toilets at Westfield so we had a 15 minute queue to get in them.
Then there was the long stroll from the station to the away end through various border crossings and searchs.
I saw a few West Ham fans in our queues and I wondered why they’d put themselves through that rather than use their own entrances.
I’m glad we scored the equaliser rather than a consolation goal.

The queues back to Stratford were horrendous though, but the thing that annoyed me was some of our fans who decided that they were above the law and lit up fags towards the back of our section.Obviously there were no stewards around when you needed them.Vaping is bad enough, but smoking in stadiums has only been banned for 19 years. But that doesn’t count with some of our fans obviously.

Speaking of fans yesterday, I'm pretty sure I was sat near Henry Lloyd-Hughes yesterday (Donovan from The Inbetweeners). I know the family are all QPR fans so its not that unsurprising.
