He's a good fit for us this lad. Happy Christmas Julien!

Never knowingly right.
Poll: How long before new signings become quivering wrecks of the players they were?

Actually the most interesting one of these for a while. I reckon even Stainrod might be able to get on board with some of the things he said in the first piece.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen him speak and not be impressed with his communication skills, his football acumen and his personality. I think we’re very lucky to have him. Definitely the best communicator since maybe Warburton?

Well I've only met him and interviewed him once obviously. I was impressed, but intrigued. He doesn't speak like a football manager. Which I think can be quite a good thing - rather this than 'Arry's bloody schtick.

I can't work him out really, or what I think about him, but I'm increasingly impressed with what he says, and how our team is playing.

I think the fact he doesn’t come out with the tired football cliche’s is one thing that I like about him. Interviews from other managers (no names) are boring, have an almost defensive attitude and you’re never able to penetrate past that to see any kind of personality. That is definitely not the case with Stephan; a man that seems very comfortable in his own skin. That kind of genuine, open personality is far more relatable and the players appear to get on well with him (from just a few snippets admittedly).

What are the specific groundbreaking takeouts you think I might be excited by here, Clive? (Not trying to be clever - I'm just a bit perplexed.)

We need to be on it every game.
Set pieces matter.
We need to be consistent.
The past is the past.

I mean, it's not exactly forensic levels of footballing analysis, is it?

I also don't understand why he thinks Portsmouth (or 'Porpoise', amusingly) have made improvements since the start of the season. We've won five of our last seven, and they've lost five of theirs! We should be going down there with all guns blazing for three points.

Look, JS seems like a smiley type of guy you could have a congenial glass of French wine with - but I just don't find him very interesting or someone who even tells it as it is.

On verra, I guess!

Well he’s our manager, he came in at a tough time after a popular managers departure with a bit of turmoil (and not just on here!), he’s developed some of the top players around at the moment…..then joined us, always relegation fighters and we’re sitting 7th! Think he deserves a bit more respect!

He's a teacher. The way he talks he comes across as someone who wants his players to learn and improve, I can see why our players are responding.
I don't think there is a player who hasn't improved since the opening game.

Really impressive.

Not sure where you get the idea from that he doesn't tell it like it is.
Surely the fact that he's working hard to ensure that the players' feet stay firmly on the ground after an emphatic win against a side that was a Premier League team just last season would be a message that would chime with your own obsession with perfection?
Surely even you would have to reluctantly admit that this side is improving in mindset, consistency and fluency right across the pitch?
Presumably, you would also have to be an admirer of him going back to watch the away game against Portsmouth last season to pick up everything useful he can?
And no, I personally don't believe that every mnager in this league would do the same thing.

Portsmouth have also beaten the much praised Boro, so I think being aware of the potential threat they pose is probably a useful exercise.

So do I take it you would prefer to have Marti over JS?

Interesting you would pick one word (porpoise) out of 5000 to put down his language skills.

Harsh Stainrod. Football managers don’t need to be rocket scientist smart, it’s honesty, transparency and emotional connection that inspires people. Inspired, motivated footballers perform at their best and that is what we are seeing.

The fact that the players pushed JS forward in front of the fans after the Leicester win speaks volumes for the collective belief and respect for him as their manager. Contrast that to Leicester and Marti.

Fancy tactics and dissection of every detail and decision is pointless. Hard work, team ethic and moments of quality win the day.

'We should be going down there with all guns blazing for three points.'

Have you ever been to Fratton Park?

It's not the easiest ground to get a result. It's pretty hostile, and particularly with it being Boxing Day, its bound to be a big, motivated home support that will have a very positive effect on their players.

No doubt we shall try and attack from the start. An early goal or two would be great but that doesn't happen every week. We have to be pragmatic, stay in shape, frustrate the opponent, quieten the crowd and build our way into the game. Our fans can and probably will play their part. A 1-0 win would be a fabulous result, a point would be another small positive.

One more time for those at the back

You are never going to get a granular explanation of tactics for past or present games from the manager, nor a warts and all exposé of how the manager feels about individual players (Wilder notwithstanding).

But what you can take away is how the manager feels about performances, what he views are the improvements and works still in progress, how he views the task at hand, and even how he approaches his job and the dressing room. On that basis this interview is interesting because it reveals something about all of the above.

They've lost FOUR of the last seven not five. Two wins and only one narrow defeat in their last four at home. Apart from already mentioned Middlesbrough they have also recorded home wins against Preston and Millwall.

They are 19th in the home form table 14 points from 11. Bottom of the away table, 7 points from 10. Only one away win all season at Oxford.
