Louis Kimber of Leics hit 43 runs off one over this morning...
...and he's just reached his double century with his 17th six. Fact checkers think it may be the fastest (time-wise) double century in championship history; it came up in the shortest number of balls, exactly 100
At one point, Leics were 175/7 chasing 464 to win; they're currently 413/7
Edit: Kimber last man out on 243, just 19 runs short of victory
Most runs in a championship over Fastest double ton (100 balls) Most sixes in an innings, 21 (plus 20 fours)
Trouble is, we've been watching that type of negative shite all year
The injection of direct passing in the last five minutes showed what could have been
On another note: great to see someone with such a huge chip on their shoulder they can't resist coming on here to let us know how much they're still weighed down by it... and i don't mean you, rs!
By dint of the "third place" qualifying rules, England are through to the last 16 before kicking a ball tomorrow night
Southgate will never get a better in-tournament chance to "free" his players from the shackles that, if retained, will see them fail with as talented a bunch as any England manager has ever had
Will it happen?
This thread has made comparisons between Southgate and McNulty. Last season, survival was the key. The same applies to McNulty. Will that happen?
My money is on "No" in both cases, but tomorrow night we'll see if there's any hope that the freedom to play the game as it was intended can be revived
Just as an aside, Delves seemed to have "upped his game" at the recent forum. He fielded a number of questions with something approaching efficiency and eloquence, a far cry from his assertion that a section of shareholder names had "fallen off the bottom of the list" not so long since (and didn't seem to have a clue what to do to put it right)
New blood in the boardroom may have stirred his own blood sufficiently, as it would have to, you'd hope
Given uncertain weather conditions, every match has become something of a lottery
It could be that England's luck began to turn yesterday, when it looked like the Namibia game might be abandoned before the Aussies held their nose and nerve against Scotland. There's enough talent in most of the remaining teams to take it to the wire
Once the new board members experience problems accessing the internet during a match, i'd expect the workstreams involving "tech" and "match day experience" to be tasked with sorting it. Maybe they could ask Jim Ratcliffe how Utd deal with a crowd of 75000 rather than 2500 in terms of internet access?
In fact, i'd expect it before they experience it themselves, since it's being flagged up...
England knock off the small target set by Oman (bowled out for 47) in just 19 balls, which means our net run rate is now better than that of Scotland, who'd need to beat the Aussies to knock England out (or if the weather intervenes to force a tie)
With the introduction of a new Finance Director to the board, i guess the previous incumbent became (as it were) "a director in search of a role"
Whilst useful for providing an insight into the minutiae of the financial state of things to the new directors, once that's no longer necessary it does bring into question what specific skill-set is being brought to the table
If he proves to be an efficient lead in updating and fine-tuning the IT requirements as per those elements indicated by the office staff mentioned in Dalenet's post, fair enough... but one would expect a level of performance required by the Ogdens to be commensurate with the standards they'd expect in their business interests
Another way of putting it, might be: "Get it bloody sorted, or else..."
Disappointing to hear of these tech problems. The question raised at the recent "Meet the Board" meeting was intended to elicit a response about how the tech side of the new regime was being addressed. A few improvements had been noted (mentioned on here) but clearly, there's a long way to go
On the other hand, the question was answered with a generic "we'll do whatever it takes to get the tech side functioning as well as it can". So these issues need to be brought to the club's attention. Since the new owners first made their name (and fortune) in the field of high tech, it shouldn't be something they're shy about getting sorted
I'll probably call in to pick up a Your Card in person so won't experience the online issue, but it'd be good if someone involved in one of the "work streams" mentioned in the forum presentation could bring this to the fore
I honestly can't see him being "dropped" under any circumstances, given the overall ethos which seems to be one of nurturing - which he's part of, rather than ever being seen to shout instructions to his team-mates
He's now also 31, so this is his last chance to make something of a name for himself by leading a team that will be remembered for the right reasons. I'm not sure his basic abilities will improve though his experience counts for something
I'm trying to be positive, since it's what we'll have in front of us next season
