The other significant thing about that goal was his instant, effortless control of the cross-field ball, quite rare at this level

He's capable of playing the percentages, so if the wind doesn't get it, there's a player running towards the far post; if the wind gets it, it could go in. The old adage of just take a punt, especially at that stage

I was preparing to write that a draw was a decent result, and it would've been, sending us up to second place

Now just a point behind York with 3 games in hand, but the confidence these last 2 wins will have given the squad, with newcomers blending into the system is immense

Further to this, I believe CAB are indeed seeking clarification

That's what it's there for, and being effective is highly creditable

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for the Trust

I'd take more credence from CAB being able to put the record straight

Whatever the reason - and if it's what you think it might be, that'd be even worse... are we a football team or a bunch of bloody fairies? - it could do with being clarified

My bet is on GMP requesting an exorbitant sum for policing an away following above the current number, which may well have more than wiped out income from additional fans

All of this needs to be clarified, so we know where we stand (half empty)

Something for CAB to take up? Otherwise we're looking at a permanent loss of income, atmosphere and capacity

This is ridiculous, anti-football support and loss of income. Could well be intervention by GMP. The last police force that restricted attendance by away fans had their Chief Constable resign a few weeks later on the back of it

What does this mean, then, for future expected large away followings? What's the point of having a stand that can accommodate twice that number?

Very much looked like he expected the ball to fall kindly for him, don't think it was due to any failure of effort as others have hinted at

It's rather like when players don't strike the ball first time in the penalty box, but take a touch to make it easier for them but that's enough to see their effort blocked

Just shows what can be done when diligent and intelligent professionalism are brought into the club, now part of our DNA

With our record, they should be shitting themselves

If not, at least we shouldn't be

Interesting insights into Manny D's previous history of fast starts, before fading

He's got enough talent; perhaps JM is gambling he'll remain sufficiently engaged in a campaign to finish top of the table that he'll maintain it till it's done

Agree

After Amantchi, it was definitely worth taking a punt on the side of experience. As you say, coming into a settled system and having the chance to finally achieve something after travelling all around the houses is something he should relish

His goal today will have helped settle him: he's made a contribution already, no need for nerves going forward

Yes, a point behind and now three games in hand, plus stops any Southend momentum ahead of us playing them

Apart from Boreham Wood (who've recovered well after their drubbing in the cup) it's been a great day for Dale
