He used to laugh about that in later years. I recall a home (v Saints?) when he was getting some fairly mild reminders, he just thought it was a laugh, waved us off at the end and got a big cheer from us.
Does anyone have a link to his pre-game interview? I canāt find it anywhere. Sounds like it was quite interesting ā¦. which makes a change from the usual platitudes you get.
WAAAAAA! Just got in from walking the dog, didnāt take my phone and, well, you know somethings up when youāve got messages from mates who support other teams. Thin iāll spend a pleasant 10 mins scrolling through the Fred
We were actually one down at HT but man, how we swamped them in the second half, so much so that Tel said some time afterwards that we were the best footballing side in the country. Super Rayās diving header will always be one of my favourite goals, bless him.
IIRC, it was the season after the Gurnham Singh game, too.
We were sh-t hot in a 3-0 win at Goodison, Bradley Allen hatrick, Wilkins was unplayable, then Les decided heād had enough and went on a brilliant run, only to thump it over the bar towards the end. I think we were better in that one than the 5-3 win there before it, but I was sat on my hands in both games as I was in the home stands with my Blue Nose mate.
I feared the worst at 3-0 after only 55 mins. No doubt Boro are a better team but I would have liked us to shore up the midfield for this one and made it at least a bit more difficult for them to break us down. Ho hum, back to watching Tuesdays highlights.
Safe trip home to the faithful who made that long old journey.
I saw the starting line up and thought, well, heās not learned much from the Budgies game, has he? Surely this was the game to play three in the middle.
6 from 9 is great, I know, but when youāve already got the 6 from the first two, then donāt just chuck out the same 11 and blame the three game week straight after.
Weāve only just got over a couple of seasons where we were VERY close to going down. A cheeky flirt with the play offs but just falling short would be great this season, but thatāll do for now. Fck going up. Itāll be horrible. Consolidate over the next 2-3 seasons. Be prepared to lose a couple of players in that time - this is why we bought them young & cheap - but build it slowly.
I mentioned that game a few months ago on here. They were top of the league with not very many games left and once they went one up, really took the p⦠with their time-wasting - I can still see Bowen pretending to not know where to take a throw from even now- and we were going absolutely mental. Falcoās equaliser was from a Paul Parker cross (I said it was Bard in my previous recollection but Iāve seen it since) and whilst it wasnāt a scramble as mentioned above, it was a bloody good header, but he was climbing all over their defender but there would have been a riot if it has been disallowed. Not quite revenge for 76 as they fell away quite badly in the end, but it felt like it at the time.
(apologies to Modfather, I just saw you did the same joke. Still, if Iāve learned anything in this life, itās never pass up on the opportunity to quote from Life of Brian or Spinal Tap).
I bought a lot of brandy when I was courtin Sandy Took 8 to make her randy an all I had was shandy.
I was just about to post that when I saw yours. That last line gets me every time. Canāt listen to that song without laughing. Bloody genius is what it is.
The second goal was just ā¦. bizarre. No attacker, defender or (but of course) Nardi went anywhere near it in the air, it hits his foot (about the most subtle touch of his all game) and went in. The ref just stood there for a while and seemed to just think, āoh, itās gone in, better trot back to the centre circle, thenā.
Not seen it since because I canāt bring myself to watch it so that might not be entirely accurate!
A bloody cowardly performance. Imagine what was going through their players minds when we equalised so quickly? I know their fans feared the worst because one of them told me after. So what did we do? We surrendered. But itās ok, Julien says we had a good week overall. Just because we won the last two, you can expect them to try to win the third.
