I don’t think British Gas is a success for anyone apart from those who purchased shares at the time. They’ve just given their boss a £245k bonus so I suppose he’s happy too. Has the customer experience from BT improved since privatisation? [Post edited 19 Mar 18:26]

Yep. Pretty rare but those Academy schools nomally with have CEOs and central teams on top. |

Possibly. And if it did a lot of it would be down to the private sector sucking money out of the public sector. As for success, I'd hold up schools where ours (in England) are some of the highes performing in the world. Edit: I should include that the Academy system in England has seen the privatisation of around 50% of schools at a vast cost. There has been no demonstable impact apart from the fact that there are now hundreds of trust CEOs earning over £150k with the best paid earning half a million quid. [Post edited 19 Mar 12:43]

...on providing services. The other option is just privatise everything but I'm strggling to name many successes. |

So for accuracy you'd need to take them out of the equation entirely. Otherwise it suggests that the tax take from the 27 million is simply proping up everything else and nothing is received in return. We could certainly get the tax take down if we closed all healthcare, schools, the forces etc. |

They're the ones the main conversation should be centred around. [Post edited 19 Mar 10:50]

That's a bit simplitic don't you think? We've 14+ million under 18's to 'pay' for, 13+ million pensioners who have already paid in, and 6 million public sector workers who pay tax (at source) who contribute. |

Down to 4 MPs. Reform gone all woke worrying about people’s feelings. |

How much influence did it have on the Sentencing Council outcomes? A bit? Lots? More or less than all the others? |

So a report he was involved in was one of the pieces used by the Sentencing Council in their review. It says “sentencing decisions needed bigger scrutiny and judges must be afforded more information about the offender’s background. ” There’s nothing that I can see about him suggesting shorter sentences for ethnic minorities it there seems to be an imbalance in the data. Looks like the Sentencing Council have made a very clumsy attempt to remedy this. Of course that doesn’t come across in the article because it’s the Mail. FWIW I think Lammy is an awful politician and only a slightly better human being but I don’t think this one can be blamed on him. Interestingly Robert Jennrick said that when it can before the Tories when they were in power they also thought it was ridiculous and would have pushed it back (as Labour have done). He didn’t pin it in Lammy though which speaks volumes. |

In what ways has he had anything to do with this? Drawn up by the Sentencing Council (crossing over the last government) and being push back by the justice secretary. Has Lammy (in his role a foreign secretary) intervened in any way? |

I’m not sure. The important bit is it looks like it’s going to be stopped, which is the main thing. |

Come now, Cat. You should be getting your truth from a Texan wedding DJ from facebook. He can give you the real geopolitical headlines then play Come on Eileen for an encore. |

Agreed. It’s just a bit strange that the barrister chose to have the Justice Secretary and Starmer in the thumbnail. Could be politically motivated, could just be for clicks. |

What did you think about the red card, Boundy? Commentators thought it was, I’m not so sure there was enough to turn the refs call over. |

Disagree, mate. This thread is about Reform in wales. If they acquiesce to food standards as part of their manifesto as a link with the US , I’m going to have a massive issue with it. |
