I agree that Jimmy is the one I'd most like to retain. Other than that, Saito. Cook and Frey are really dependent on how high their wages are. I do like Frey but we need a more mobile striker as our number nine, so we can't be paying exorbitant wages for a sub. Ditto, Cook, who is a fantastic player to have round the club but we can't be paying silly money for a 34-year-old who will only be losing pace and fitness.
I do think he's got a point on recruiting (and playing) younger players but what's transpired this season is that you need to balance that with some tough, Championship-hardened players. It's arguably why Madsen hasn't worked out - you might look good statistically playing in Belgium but away at Portsmouth or Millwall that doesn't count for much.
Worrying if Marti is on his way out because of Nourry. I don't think Marti is perfect but I'd certainly trust his football knowledge more than Nourry's, his three decades in football notwithstanding.
Ashby is clearly here cheap because of our Newcastle connection. Yang has quality (his assist against Derby) but I agree he shouldn't be starting if he's not producing. Edwards, however, is a superb player who is better than what we have. I don't have a problem with a loan player being in the team if they're as good as him or Kyle Walker or Wayne Routledge.
Yeah, thought he was great yesterday. However, we've got to think carefully about how we use our budget next season. For me, the priorities are more pace, more aggression and a quality striker. If Eze goes this summer, then we're in a better position. As good as Colback played yesterday, I just don't see how we can justify his wages. We've got to be scouting better and identifying a similar, younger player with sell-on potential.
Yeah, really enjoyed that. Colback and Dunne both very good. Still think Marti is slow to make substitutions. Such an important summer coming up in terms of a rebuild. I hope we are signing some more like Jimmy - the physical side is so important in this league.
The officials were disgraceful. Just like Atletico's penalty being disallowed the other night, we all know if it had happened the other way, it would have stood. How did the bald prick think a challenge near their penalty box was a red card? Love to see stats on how many 50-50s he gave them a free-kick for.
Nourry was pretty visible when we were in form. It'll be interesting to see whether he surfaces much now we're underperforming again. I've been really disappointed with this season - outside the parachute payment clubs, it's much of a muchness and I thought we'd kick on. Not even sure about Marti now and wonder whether we all loved him because of who he replaced. Last season's home game with Leeds was the highlight of the season. Really not looking forward to tomorrow's game.
If the Palace keeper had done it to a Millwall player, would it have happened? I doubt it. Certainly not if a Champions League goalkeeper had done it to some League 1 scum.
Tbf to Mexico, it was originally meant to be Columbia in 1986. Interestingly, Mexico, the US and Canada all submitted separate bids to replace them but FIFA told the other two to do one. Times really have changed.
I think Varane is a very promising player who has potential to get much better, particularly if Marti can get him going forwards more. The weird thing is we've seen glimpses against Bristol City and Leicester of that side of his game but his instinct is to be risk averse.
Some of these refs just like to do odd things. There was that one who kept doing funny little sprints from the goalkeeper up to the halfway line. Scratch the surface and most of them are Cooting away.
The decision not to send off Choudury summed that ref up. Would have booked him for the foul on Koki if he hadn't already been on a yellow but bottled it and Wilder subbed him off soon afterwards. Down to ten men for the last quarter and it's a different game. It's weird, when I watch The Big Match Revisited they seem less awful - maybe we need Brian Moore to announce where they're from before kick-off to improve things.
Thought him and the linesman on that side were awful. The ref was a typical homer (for the away side) sucking up to the team likely to be in the Premier League next season.
If the lino did his job properly, he wouldn't get lighters thrown at him. QED.
It was after the challenge on Dembele, wasn't it? How he cannot flag for that I don't know.
Depressing to see the lack of improvement this season. Still slow as f*** to break; Dunne being our most creative player says it all. Is Marti really all that? Got to say seeing Fat Frank take Coventry into the play-offs and you do start to wonder. Big summer ahead. Think most of that team won't be here next season. I just hope we get some quick players in - Nourry said that we're going for younger players and one hopes we will have more like Koki going forward.
Insane that we weren't monetising the sponsorship and advertising for years. Maybe now we can get a Watford-style arrangement in place with a European club and shift Taylor Richards for £20m.
