Sell Jon Varane ?
at 22:21 11 Jan 2026

If we can sell an injured Varane for around £5m let's think about how much we could get for all the other players now in the treatment room who can't walk?

Massive congrats to the lad for being on Match Of The Day this weekend. Such a huge achievement for a young lad. Very much deserved. He's absolutely gutted after the game. More gutted than most of us.

I'm impressed by how disappointed he is that we lost but I'm very pleased he scored and against a Prem team. Should do his confidence a lot of good.

GREAT EFFORT TODAY.......
at 18:27 11 Jan 2026

Nonetheless they pretty much went toe to toe overall Brian. But I agree, from 10 days ago thinking, well we only need perhaps 1 or 2 players in the window, perhaps we now need 3 or 4. Particularly with Poku, JCS and a few others including Burrell out for some time.

What on earth has happened with Vale? I mean, yes he had a stinker last time out, but he is a player we should be bringing through. He's only 22 despite the hairline.

Fourth Round Here We Come Match Thread
at 17:25 11 Jan 2026

A big shame to go out but we gave it a real go and to be toe to toe with what is still a Prem team after 90+ minutes should show them what they can do at this level with application.

I think a bit more experience and bravery right near the end with the ball Morgan put in and we may have got ourselves level.

Look we and 9000+ fans asked them to give everything they had and I think they did. When you think that Bowen (an England player) alone is a £50m-£60m+ player and that's almost double the value of our squad right now, you have to think we did pretty well.

From a technical point of view I hope Julien and the team go through the match stats with the squad during the week because although obviously West Ham had home advantage, there are stats here that we can learn from if we are going to one day challenge.

Tell you what though, if as and when West Ham take the drop I think we'll have them next season.

Either 2-1 QPR with a Kone brace or we literally get hammered.

What a fantastic midfield player. Their captain 26. Looks very at home against Palace and simply outmuscling their midfield and with plenty of skill. Good little cup game this.

Ronnie returns, but is it the handsome deal QPR hope? – Signing
at 11:15 10 Jan 2026

As you say if Madsen gets injured we are criminally short of playmakers.

Chair is now relentlessly injured and Morgan is only 19, although I have very high hopes for him. If we could put Barry Bannan in a time machine and take 10 years off his age that would be one option, but it has to be a priority to find another playmaker, somewhere.

I like Varane but the Saint-Etienne deal is for a loan with a view to buy. We can't risk that. If they stomp up £5m then it's a serious consideration for us and the player. We do have Field, Hayden, Morgan and Edwards who can play that role.

The other thing is to either try and tie down RND or find another equally mature left back, as realistically Esq is not good enough yet, which just leaves Field, who is fine there but out of his natural position.

Also to say that the much slated Nourry does at least seem to have the financial side of the club under control. Everything is a gamble but if he does move on Varane for £5m, a player that cost us just over £1m then he would have balanced his books. Even if he doesn't do that then like him or not, behind the scenes he's doing a good job.

January transfer rumours
at 18:44 9 Jan 2026

I think Varane is happy here. At least let him play here until the end of the season and then I guess it is up to him. He's had a very in and out season so far but when he is good he's very good. Why loan him out with a view to a sale, that may not come. If they are that intent on him they can come back for a chat at the end of the season. Definitely shouldn't be in a try before you buy situation here.

£4.5m is a lot of money for Ronnie Edwards, but apparently his wages will be sponsored by L'Oréal... Because he's worth it.

I'm actually excited that Bennie and Kolli may get their chance. I've seen Bennie play in the Dev squad and he really is a cut above. Like Kolli he knows where the goal is and like Burrell he has lightning pace. I think he could be an unexpected star.

He's bound to be rubbish now isn't he!

I note the last line of the report there where Nourry says: Obviously to finance this transfer we are asking fans over the age of 60 to liquidate their pensions!

Although, he's 22 so hopefully he has time to get his match minutes up and rediscover the form he had with us last time. I feel reasonably confident and slightly terrified at £4.5m.

The good thing is that we know he can read the game well at CB and I take from this that perhaps JCS's days are numbered in terms of being relied on to play more than a handful of matches. Edwards could also become a Declan Rice type player for us as well. For me he was (and I hope will be) the closest player we've had to Glenn Roeder.
