| News Comment | Southampton V Liverpool The Verdict at 19:06:44
Decided not to go and left my seat empty. I love my team but cannot watch what SR and RM are doing to my team that I have support for 70 years. In that time there have been more downs that ups but I am totally bored and fed up with the tripe I am forced to watch. The 1958/59 season and the Branfoot era were bad but this is worse if that is possible. I will return for the next home game but I now realise they are totally not interested in any supporter view. This clown Steve Martin sorry Russell has no concept of how depressing his type of football is and if anyone else tells us they play great football I will totally lose the will. |
| News Comment | Sources Say Southampton Have Made Decision About Russell Martin at 19:32:10
They really don’t care what we think. They know regardless of the utter crap we have all endured a hardcore of us will always turn up. There is no respect for the opinion of supporters thank you Sports Republic for the utter misery you are creating in many Southampton households. The idiot that made his name at Brentford has a lot to answer for but as he does not care what we think but I suppose at 41 he knows it all. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Everton The Verdict at 10:56:15
Funny how we see games differently. I thought Lallana started very well but as the first half progressed he was caught in possession on 3 separate occasions and caused as some real difficulty. We rode our luck but a win is a win. We won regardless of Martin’s team selection. Manning, Stephens, really??? Pleased for Adam Armstrong but he again showed prior to his goal the premiership is a step too far. Also Aribo lost the ball on a number of occasions. Ramsdale, both centre backs, Walker Peters and Fernandez all plus |
| News Comment | Southampton At Manchester City The Verdict at 15:37:00
Battling performance and if we had a few points on the board we would generally be fairly pleased with the result. However we are in a dire situation and regardless of RM moaning on about the media and supporters who believe he should be sacked d day still looms. SR have obviously edged their bets in sticking with him but it is clear finance and RM 3 year contract is behind their lack of action. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Leicester City The Verdict at 10:34:23
We are united in our rant but SR do nothing all the comments made are totally justified. The introduction of a speedy winger by Leicester and moving KWP to right back meant the introduction of Taylor was obvious but no let’s put Manning a first division full back at best up against him and rely on the journey man Fraser to double up. Tactics that were totally inept and sums up what we are witnessing. Some people believe SR have a massive say in who we sign and who plays whatever this is RM and the CEO we brought in from Brentford (who seems to have fingers in several pies) need to go yesterday or sooner before we become worst than the laughing stock we currently are. God help us!!!!!! |
| News Comment | Southampton At Bournemouth The Verdict at 15:10:35
RM please go. Nice 3 year contract to ease the pain and a dolly bird to boot life is tough! I was bored last year and nothing has changed apart from we don’t win any games. I now feel we are a joke and cannot take any more of this total crap style of play. We will all have opinions on players but honestly how many of our players would be in any premier league side’s starting lineup? Ramsdale, Walker Peters (who get a game in this wonderful team) can’t think of anyone else. Where the hell did they get Diaz from??? Enough is enough RM go now. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Manchester United The Verdict at 20:17:35
Results matter and we cannot allow any sentiment in the decision making process if after the Arsenal game we are winless. I totally agree with most of the comments made. Would Russell Martin chance playing are best defender(if fit) ABK and taking a chance on tall Paul? I really worried about the standard of some of the squad. JB & JS are at best average and would not be starting for any other Premier side.Stewart may come good but why did we pay 15m for a lightweight like CA is worrying. Even bottom of the Championship Cardiff with one goal to their credit in the league in 5 games put 3 past us! Ipswich and the Bournemouth game will indicate what this season brings under RM and it will be interesting how Sports Republic react if results remain negative. |
| News Comment | Southampton At Brentford The Damning Verdict at 16:54:52
I cannot disagree with the largely negative reaction to the Brentford result. Extremely disappointing and to some extent avoidable. We all have our views on how to correct this but as it appears our Manager like Margret Thatcher is “Not for turning”. I give him 10 games and unless results improve Sports Republic will no doubt do the deed. I understand him trying to stick with the players who earned our promotion but honestly how many are good enough for this level. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Nottingham Forest The Verdict. at 13:14:22
Very disappointing. Lack of creativity is very worrying. I think Adam Armstrong is a really honest punter but Premier League he is not which is a shame. The need for a quality striker is paramount and let us hope putting our eggs in the Gapko basket as in 2022/23 is not duplicated and we end up with no one. Also I really thought Harwood Bellis was poor and deserved to be replaced. Not 20m on this showing. |
| News Comment | Danny Ings Making It Hard For West Ham To Push Him Out Of The Door at 15:58:17
When you consider Le Tiss highest earning was £4,750 a week this does make me laugh! Ings was on a good screw at Saints but chose the GIG (greed is good) route, as a local lad no loyalty. Assuming the rumours are true. Bottom line is that Saints would be taking a chance on a player that has failed at his two most recent clubs. He could have been a legend but chose GIG. |
| News Comment | Southampton At Leicester The Debacle at 22:57:12
Negative thoughts over the past weeks from me and others which I regret but that frustration is aimed solely at Russell Martin. We have a strong squad but this manager has totally blown it. You don’t need 60/70% of the ball to be successful in games the lack of creativity is there for all to see.He has been found out and unless the players can lift matters in the playoffs another season in the 2nd tier beckons. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Watford The Verdict at 19:18:42
Excellent write up. The lack of variation playing out from the back is driving everyone mad! All this dribble of a warm day, tired legs what a load of crap. The manager does not manage during the game and this creates the problems for the players. Winning 23 games to date should have us feeling we have cracked it but it just does not feel like it I cannot remember any successful season being so underwhelming. A good squad playing to orders without giving them guidance on a variation to their pattern of play is extremely frustrating. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Coventry City The Verdict at 14:20:41
Thought performance was better and a good number of players played well for 60 minutes until the tinkering started. We will need robust, brave players in the playoffs and to be brutally honest neither Brooks or Mara fit the bill. Lightweights spring to mind although creative at times they do not seem to want to roll their sleeves up when it matters. Hard working players will be the order of the day. |
| News Comment | Southampton At Ipswich The Verdict at 16:22:39
I fully agree with the negative comments. Russell Martin had the squad and has blown it shame on him. Any reasonable manager with this group of players would have been nailed on to be in the automatic promotion shakeup. The complete failure in a number of matches to kill the game off added to the dreadful defending has cost us due to his failure to adapt to situations. He had a wonderful opportunity to win the fans over and has succeeded in alienating a high percentage of us. Finishing 4th in most seasons would have been considered pretty good coupled with a play off slot but I feel Martin has cheated us. Not a sacking fan but his inability to change makes him untenable if we fail in the playoffs |
| News Comment | Southampton V Sunderland The Verdict at 21:19:31
Like most fans i have come to expect this type of display on offer. I walked home thinking did we win? It didn’t really feel like a win. The tactics we witness week in week out lends its self to mistakes hence most fan’s frustration at the performance. Both Millwall and Sunderland were poor and as we have a strong squad on paper we can only assume the method employed by Russell Martin is working only some of the time. I know he is not going to change and my overall dissatisfaction will continue. I really would like to be more positive but I hope come the end of the season we don’t feel cheated as to what might have been. I sincerely hope I am totally wrong. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Millwall The Verdict at 13:39:40
I like all fans love to see our team do well, regardless of how they play and from time to time playing ugly to get the right result. I am really please with the great run we had been on and give the players credit for this. As you may suspect there is a but coming. Why do I find I am totally bored in the style of play Russell Martin insists on playing. There is no real creative play and apart from Walker-Peters there is no excitement generated. I can look away from the game and find the predictable play insisted by the Manager takes us no further forward. Sideways, backwards, forward, backwards it goes on. Millwall were a poor side and our lack of creative play is finding us out. Team selection is an issue but we should(on paper) have enough to beat teams like this. |
| News Comment | On This Day 1960 Saints Cause FA Cup Shock At Manchester City at 14:30:18
Remember it well. Great day with my Dad, shame we lost to Watford in the next round. Paine will always be the greatest player the Saints had in my 75 years. He made the most average striker look like a world beater. So many happy memories. |
| News Comment | Southampton Midfielder Shocked By Fans Booing At St Mary's at 09:21:55
So just like the Leeds game we started well but a less than an inspired second half performance. Martin’s subs did not work and we lacked a cutting edge. I mentioned to my fellow season ticket I think Rotherham will score and sure enough they did. Fans frustration is understandable a group of players highly paid therefore expectation are very high. I love to know what the total cost of the Rotherham team and their respective wages compared to our team. Seeing Leicester doing so well adds to our continued frustration remember Russell Martin we are not MK Dons and Swansea. |
