Ditto…I was feeling the same. Such a thought would never have entered what I call my mind years ago, we always assumed it was 100% effort every match.
Was the game so much more honest back then ? Maybe not. Of course there were no forums to discuss these things, just mates down the pub and at work on Monday morning. |

Fans love a good winger and we've had quite a few.
Going back donkey's, villa had a winger called Charlie Athersmith. He was a heavy drinker and had a short career.
One game, in protest at having to play in impossible conditions of freezing torrential rain, he nicked an umbrella off a spectator and dribbled up and down the wing.
Villa finished the match with only 7 men on the pitch and one of them had to be treated for exposure in the dressing room after the game.
