Marti - Glasgow Rangers.
at 15:21 17 Feb 2025

Fancying is different to paying the compo though. If Ipswich come down and McKenna goes I’d be with you, he’d be mad not to take a job like that. Same with any of the current top 3 (if they don’t all go up, and it increasingly feels like they will).

Can’t see any of the other top 6 chasing sides paying in the millions for a manager mind, WBA bring in a few mil for Corberan and get Mowbray for nothing. Watch Blackburn appoint someone on the cheap. You don’t spend millions on a manager when you can’t spend millions on players.

Top 10 Championship players 24/25
at 14:43 17 Feb 2025

Despite them not beating us, Watford’s Georgian lad and Baah were stand outs for me (no way they both stick around in this league much longer).

Tom Fellows at WBA essentially won them the opening game on his own with his delivery from wide. Proper winger.

Unfortunately, Bannon (always and forever Bannon).

Ben Doak - ended Santos’ career in English football.

I thought Knight and Bird for BC are premier league players in waiting.

Finally, I’d agree with Johanssen for Stoke and add Conor Hazard to the mix for their shot stopping.

Not going to suggest top 4 players out of spite for the financial disparities / the fact Sunderland just weren’t that good when we played them (and neither were we)

Rumours about Marti going
at 13:56 17 Feb 2025

First two bits here bang on. We’ve seen time and time again, most clubs don’t want to spend millions to pay comp for a manager who, more than likely in the modern world, they will
then need to fire at some point when it all goes to sh**. Hell even Southampton with all the premier league money didn’t want to fork out a few mil for Rohl. We payed half a mil or so (from memory) for Marti and that was funded by a garage sale of sponsorship deals.

If martis is anywhere in the millions, the biggest threat - as many on here have said time and again - is relegated premier league teams coming in for him who can afford a few mi (ie not Rangers). Lucky for us, Saints/Leicester are both in the bin financially, and if it is Ipswich coming down our risk is only really there if McKenna gets poached (but that feels less likely now than last summer when it was on the brink).

Bits and Pieces I loved yesterday

Really hope we can keep Koki beyond this season. In martis interview with WLS he alluded to how it’s taken him a little while to get used to the league and the coaching staff’s tactics, and if he was to go elsewhere come season end it would feel like he’s left with more to give.

Could be a real player for us next couple of seasons

Oh yeah I’m being very tongue in cheek there mate. Don’t actually think there’s anything wrong with that one incident, but given he’s clearly a wan**** it just fits the narrative. Totally agree if any of our strikers pulled a Di Canio in that situation we’d be fuming. But…he’s clearly a piece of work

His rap sheet of misdemeanours/thuggery grows by the day. Playing on when Cook tore the muscle of his sole is a Good Samaritan act relative to rest of it. Horrible bloke, befitting of PNE

How many points needed for 5th/6th?

And how many points to stay up? Let’s all remember where we were and the doom and gloom being spouted by many on this board (cough cough). It’s a free hit. Enjoy it

Derby are, as they were before eustace, absolute garbage. 4-0 because we were clinical and put them away with ease. You can nitpick if you want, I want to enjoy having just watched my team at the bush destroy a crap side like they were a 12 year old straying into the u18s game. If you want to analyse it more be my guest.

Happy f****** valentines you Rs. Great night

Blackburn comms team obviously had a quiet word with the CEO/Chair to water down the bitter fire from the first statement…Departure article is a bit less 14 year old boy dumped for the first time.

5th in league and a win at WBA makes it a bit easier I suppose. Still getting my head round this one. Hope we smash them tomorrow regardless, they’re crap.

I take that means we’ve been spared for Sheff U and WBA away? Is this Sky’s way of saying we’re a dead cert to be mid table, have they been chatting to Jim…

Yeah that’s fair, and maybe I’m being overly harsh on our lot / see Cov with some rose tinted glasses (as player for player I think they’re up there with Boro for best of the rest). Ultimately it was a game of fine margins to quote Warbs Warburton, and all three results can be argued - but personally just felt they looked slightly better than us across the pitch (except for Nardi).

Amazing to think last time we played both teams were in and around bottom 3, based on yesterday

Ah apologies - I’ll blame it on my priors thinking we looked a bit weak on the eye!

Personally feel that away from home Varane is needed as we can look a bit fragile/slow in middle of park, though I get the resting given his outlay over winter.

Contrary to most on here, I thought they were comfortably the better team and deserved to edge it. Thought their midfield was far superior off the ball - by FotMob not a single one of our starting midfielders made a tackle - and on it. Rudoni and Sakamoto bossed much of the game, and it always felt like if someone was going to win it it’d be them.

Baffled at the opinion Nardi was poor. Handling from crosses aside, bit of a theme for him, was excellent.

We’ve got two games coming up now against much worse opposition, and should be able to get more points on the board to trickle up towards 50

In fairness to him, would you really want to work for the Venkies and be travelling to Blackburn everyday?

Personally fall more on the side that this shows just how much of a basket case Blackburn must be upstairs than Eustace being a Beale-esque figure. You don’t go from chasing play offs to fighting relegation lightly.

Better second half. Saito and Yang much more threatening than Chair and Smyth today. Massive issues in the defensive line now Dunne is presumably off. If they don’t sign a proper RB in next couple days, wouldn’t be comfortable going into rest of season.

Hope the new LB (if true) comes in and replaces Paal quickly. His set piece delivery is so so so poor.

As have the owners. Selling your best player on the (relative) cheap while rock bottom. Think one spot is locked in down there

Alfie Lloyd & Paul Smyth - Captains of Chaos
at 15:33 22 Jan 2025

Said it tongue in cheek last night, but if Lloyd keeps developing like we’ve seen this season he will be much more useful than Armstrong ever will be - despite the superior physical attributes Armstrong has. If he can consistently receive the ball up top, hold it, bring it down etc while also being able to run channels and make defenders run towards their own goal, we have a proper striker for the level.

Armstrong only ever had the physical qualities and BC fans I know are already saying that he doesn’t offer anything besides that. Lloyd will still need to improve his game in the box but those technical improvements alone in his touch and hold up make him a much more threatening player than Armstrong will be, because teams will know he can do both sides of the game (whereas Sincs just gets read easily and teams know what’s going to do before he does it).

Lloyd has really really impressed me these last few outings, and the coaching of him is top notch.

Captain Chaos v2.0 with new and improved first touch, hold up and link play - beware Championship.

Clear MOTM for me. He just feels like a QPR player, bit mad, bit raw, all heart

All very well having the best stadium in league 1 mind.

It’s not mutually exclusive as you lot have proved. Find the whole debate here a bit misleading, it’s fundamentally about making good decisions (on players, managers, club upgrades etc etc). With more money the stakes on those decisions are higher, so getting them right pays off big time and getting them wrong screws you for, in our case, a decade.

All the clubs that have done it successfully have smart people upstairs who get those calls right (all the bs - Brentford, Brighton, Bournemouth).

Nourry might be that smart person, we don’t know yet, but we know our owners are not those smart people. Just have to hope when the time comes we have someone who can get the big decisions right, because if fecking Bournemouth can be 5th then we have to aspire to at least be at the bloody table.
