Our style is most definitely not suited to the championship, a blind man could see that. It does get my goat when people keep talking about getting back to the 'Swansea way'....why would you go back to base your game around a system that was effective 10 years ago. Football has moved on and so should we, lets focus on building a team that can compete using the old fashioned virtues of hard work, organisation and discipline. To succeed in the championship you have to have a core bunch of mentally strong players who are willing to go the extra yard, unfortunately we dont seem to have any of these within our current squad. More interested in their 'stats' than actually trying to graft to win a game. |

For a short while today there seemed to be a glimmer of hope until the usual feeble defending kicked in. This won't change overnight and I hope that Matos can quickly identify the best system for this mob along with the players who are actually up for the fight. Franco feigning an injury instead of getting up and blocking his man getting forward (WBA actually scored from the move) just sums up some of the attitudes within this squad. Regardless of how good a coach Matos is you can't polish a turd - Idah & Ronald really need to find some desire from somewhere if they are going to add any value to this team going forward. |

There are a few other excellent desi pubs nearby too for those who like an indian grill and a few pints of Cobra pre match. Soho Taverns - B70 8PR (the best desi pub chain in the Midlands IMO). Red Lion - B71 1RH another cracking desi pub There is a harvester just off M6,J7 also for a quieter pint - B43 7AG (15 mins from ground but easy access via Halfords Lane). |

All opinions welcome mate. I guess my thoughts behind giving Vig a rest are down to giving him a shake as his reluctance to leave his line does put more pressure on the defence and in my opinion is contributing to our nervousness at the back. He has his own faults as do the defence in front of him clearly, both combined at the moment makes for nervous viewing. A paramedic would struggle to find a pulse in this team at the moment so changes are desperately needed even if that means taking a step back to allow us to move forward. |

Appalling is a bit strong dont you think? Anyone that has played over 100 professional matches is hardly appalling. He is good enough to tep in and give Vig a breather for a few games which will do him no harm whatsoever and in my opinion will not weaken us too much based on what I have seen recently. Vig is not playing well enough to be untouchable so why wouldnt you give him a chance whilst assessing your squad, hes played well enough this season to get his chance. With regards to his performances during Martin's reign I think most keepers would have been traumatised playing that type of nonsense out from the back. |

He isn't the long term answer 100% but it would do hirm no harm to sit out a couple of games to gee him up a bit and get the juices flowing again. Not suggesting for one minute Fisher is the better keeper but Vig defo needs a shake, nothing wrong with keeping players on their toes and competition for places open rather than the stale situation we currently have. No one is too good to be dropped or switched atm with the exception of probably Galbraith. |

We wont get relegated this season with the squad we have, with some proper guidance and direction we can climb back into the top half, not good enough to get near the play offs IMO despite this being a bang average league this season. Plenty of games left fortunately to fix this system and get the players switched back on. The vast majority of goals we concede have been individual errors which can be fixed with good coaching. We have conceded far too many goals from poor marking at the far post recently - Eom on Tuesday, Samuels Smith on Saturday. Add to that Cabango and Burgess chipping in with a few clangers and that has been the difference between picking up points and losing (probably lots more I could mention here too). Matos could do worse than shake it up a bit for a couple of games and bench the poor performers: Out with Vig, Ronald, Cabango, Eom, Key, Cullen In with Fisher, Casey, Inoussa and Widdell, Yalcouye We are undoubtably at our lowest point currently so the only way is up, underperforming players need to get their hunger back and fight for the badge which is why I would drop them now and change the dynamic of the team with a bit more hunger and energy. WBA are really struggling too and from what I know will be sacking Mason on Saturday if they lose, we can get something out of this if we show up. Ronald surely must be dropped if we are to have a chance, Its been a long time since I have seen such a poor winger play for the Swans, if there is an offer on the table in January I would bite their hands off. Key unfortunately just isn't suited to a back 3, he needs to play as a traditional right back in a back 4. Unlike Ronald he does work his socks off and IMO plays for the badge, just doesnt fit with our current style but could be decent at this level in the right team and set up. Vig needs a shake up too, Fisher hasn't done anything wrong this season so deserves a chance. |

Not strangling anyone's opinions or asking anyone to keep anything to themselves so I think you may have misread my post?? Definition of 'Jumpy' - A fan that tends to over react and spread doom after every loss (even if these are after six straight wins). All opinions are valid in my book, even the jumpy ones..... |

He has good football credentials and should be hungry to succeed in his first big job, he will have my full support to try to turn around this dull and toothless football we currently meander around with. Changing a system as inneffective as ours will take some time, I am not expecting anything to even start evolving for at least another 6/8 games or so. I hope he can pick up enough points in that time to keep the 'jumpy ones' quiet. The club simply cant afford to get this one wrong so hopefully will back him with whatever he needs to build a more effective team and system from January onwards. Let's be positive and get behind him to give him the best chance possible to make this a success for all parties. |

Bazball is not really the answer to beating the Aussies in Australia. Trying to drive a moving ball is just madness as those who have played cricket will know, take a look and get your bat out of the way.....the fact they all continued to bat like this in both innings was crazy. My son plays U16 county cricket and all the coaches are currently interested in are the lads who can hit the ball miles even if they only fire once in a while. No focus anymore on gritty players who can build an innings and dig in when the pitch or bowling is lively (Joe Root is the exception). Test cricket needs to last longer than 2 days for its own future benefit. The ACB now has to refund over £4m worth of tickets for the remaining few days play lost and also take the hit on lost revenue which would have been significant from another 3 days of boozing and eating. Bazball is costing test cricket an absolute fortune |
 | Forum Thread | Big Task For The Next Manager - Points over Possession at 14:11 19 Nov 2025
It looks like we may have a new manager soon, to be honest I'm personally not that bothered with who it is but more bothered about what they bring as the our current set up and gameplan just doesn't work. The new manager has a job on their hands to develop a more dynamic and progressive style which includes far more attacking threat and variety in possession than we currently have. The new manager will be inheriting a team that is: * Ranked 18th in the league * Ranked 16th on wage bill * Ranked 21st on league attendances * Ranked 10th on squad value (more like 16th when loan players are removed) * Ranked 21st in shots taken * Ranked 24th on touches in opposition box (only 233 all season) * Ranked 4th in possession stats * Ranked bottom in entertainment (based on a recent survey of 15,000+ SCFC fans) My point.....all of the stats above paint a picture of our current standing in the league being about right, the only stat that sticks out and probably the one that proves our current style and tactical plan isn't effective is possession - Busy going nowhere! It's a big task and I would happily sacrifice our position in the possession table if that meant we actually had a fired up team and game plan that could flex system/tactics to compete in every game. Their induction should be straightforward - Points over possession, less backwards & sideways, get the ball forward quicker. |
 | Forum Reply | Next manager who do we want? at 09:04 12 Nov 2025
For me it doesn't really matter who, its more about what we want after a few years of boredom and dross. Whoever it is I hope they can bring with them some attacking purpose and variation in our play so we can compete better in this division. We dont need another possession guru in my opinion or a Gaurdiola disciple, would much rather someone with original thoughts and a good tactical brain to utilise the players we have. |
 | Forum Thread | Pick Your SCFC 'Favourite' X1 at 10:44 11 Nov 2025
It's not much fun being a SCFC fan at the moment, the football is slow, sideways and about exciting as watching paint dry. It hasn't always been like this and the good times will return at some point soon hopefully. To distract myself from the tedium of modern football I've put my neck on the line and picked out my FAVOURITE X1 (not necessarily the best or most balanced team, just a team full of my favourite ever SCFC players that I used to look forward to watching in their positions to remind myself that it did actually used to be interesting to watch the Swans. 1. Roger Freestone - Rock solid keeper who played behind some very average defenders and was a model of consistency. 2. Angel Rangel - Fantastic football brain, always 1 pass ahead of everyone, his first time pass down the line under pressure was top class. 3. Chris Coleman - The first time I had ever seen someone with real pace at the vetch, we didnt have him for long but he was some player (Terry Phelan comes a close second). 4. Andy Melville - Never did anything spectacular but was a good old fashioned no nonsense defender. 5. Ashley Williams - A proper leader who gave everything for the shirt, his long diagonal passes from the back were sublime. 6. Leon Britton - Without him the Swansea way would not have been possible, controlled the tempo of games with ease. 7. Colin Pascoe - Was a level above anything we had during his first stint with us, he used to get the crowd going when he got the ball. 8. Robbie James - They dont build them like him any more, the guvnor in the middle of the park, always loved a shot from distance (does anyone remember these?). 9. Michu - Had it all, great first touch, good in the air, great at linking up play and also not afraid to beat a man and have a shot. 10. Lee Trundle - Provided so much entertainment, not forgetting the goals. 11. Nathan Dyer - He was always positive going forward, not like the wingers now always looking to go backwards. When I look at our current squad there is nobody that provides anything like these guys used to in a SCFC shirt, I guess this is down to the modern way of playing - Stats before entertainment, possession over points. |

I can't see anything changing playing wise if Sheehan and co. do get a stay of execution. Admitting your set up and tactics are innefective after a full pre season and the first third of this season would damage their credibility with prospective new employers. Dont expect any changes if this carries on for a few weeks more, its generally more acceptable to fail with your own system as a manager in football these days than it is to admit you got it wrong. The turnover of managers and churn of coaches is so high there will always be offers on the table even for those who have failed. If I was interviewing Sheehan for a new job I would be asking some questions: > You had pace in the team at Swansea, why didn't you use it? > Why continue with the same system when you could see teams had worked you out? > Did you have a strength and conditioning coach, were there any weights in your gym? > What players did you improve during your time at SCFC? > Did you have a set piece coach, did they have any experience of football? |
 | Forum Reply | Darren O'Dea at 10:32 10 Nov 2025
The dynamic has certainly changed this season and on the face of what we are witnessing not for the better. O'Dea has been employed to add value to a system that was pretty effective at the back end of last season, unfortunately its gone backwards which is not a good endorsement of his skill set or perhaps his compatability with the current coaches - did we do our homework on these things before making him an offer? We have lost O'Brien and Darling but brought in more quality to the squad so no excuses whatsoever for going backwards. A reserve team sunday league manager from the Dog & Duck could work out we are too slow in the build up, static off the ball, weak in the tackle and make things up as we go along in the last third. It might be too late for Sheehan and his coaching team now but they have been given the resources and failed to improve the team - pure and simple. |
 | Forum Reply | Swansea City v Ipswich Town : Match day thread UPDATED at 13:07 7 Nov 2025
We have to adapt our current style or else, every team has worked out our playing patterns. i am no genius but I would suggest Ipswich will set up for the 3 man press up top, sit back wait for a mistake and counter us when the opportunity presents itself - can't imagine the Ipswich pre match tactical meeting will take very long. We have a big backroom team of well paid coaches and it really is time they earned their money starting Saturday. More of the same static and predictable football is just not an option anymore, that's not just based on my opinion, the league table tells us that.
