Many years back the area had a load of fans from the top 7 sides in the premier pretty much everyone had a top flight side.

With us now being in the prem ourselves for the 6th season has this demographic changed much with football supporters in Swansea? Do most now follow the Swans or are we still the minority club ?

When my two boys were in primary school they had mates whose parents supported Liverpol and Man United and unfortunately, my sons copied their mates and started to "support" those 2 teams, one was a Liverpool fan and the other Man U. Much to my disgust they even had a few tops as pressies from the families.
Being a patriotic Welshman from Port Talbot, I cant say I was particularly pleased with this situation. So, during the Sousa season as and when I could I took the kids to see a few games, football wasn't great but it was a start. We don't get to as many games as I would like as I work most weekends and getting tickets can be difficult, but the kids are hooked on Swansea. They have the tops, water bottles, are members of the cygnets club, watch the swans on tv etc so the bonds are being built. Moving forward, we need to make sure the next generation of local children become Swans fans instead of Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal etc, with good media exposure, links with schools and with initiatives like kids for a quid at lower profile games it can happen.
I will probably take some stick for this, but If a South Wales kid isn't going to support Swansea I would rather see them support Cardiff or Newport than one of the big teams.

Everton was my second club from the age of 10. I cannot believe friends that put another club before where they are from. I have lost friends over this. As soon as swans was in the same league I had only one team not wanting a draw.

Every town and city even Manchester has fans of other premier league clubs. Swansea is absolutely no different to Norwich or Brighton.

Always has and always will be SCFC its in the blood see...

Seen them in all 4 leagues, Wembley 4 times, Millennium 3 times, Europe away 4 times, about 50+ away grounds.

Life is a journey unlike most top flight fans like MUFC,LFC who think its just about the destination.

My friend went on safari to Tanzania a couple of weeks back. The guide asked him where he was from. He replied "Wales". Guide didn't have a clue. Asked to clarify he replied "Swansea". Guide immediately beamed and said "Ah, Swansea City, Premier League!". Can't over estimate how important us being there is to the city.

I had the same experience in Chiang Mai in Thailand during the Laudrup season, nobody had heard of Wales but if I said Swansea they tended to know what I was on about.

I live in what Cardiff fans would consider a "safe seat" for support. The valleys outside Bridgend. Mostly Swans tops for the younger generation although Barcelona and Real Madrid are very popular too. My son plays junior football and there are 2 kids who wear Cardiff kits regularly, 5 who wear Swansea regularly and the rest are a Liverpool, Spurs Newcastle Barca etc. of the Swans kids mine has a season ticket and two of the others have been once or twice.

Am I still allowed to take in a Hearts match when I visit Edinburgh? Or should I feel bad cause I'm only allowed to support the Swans?

Of course... I follow Darlington as well as I have lived up here for many years... I moved out of the town in 2013 and live about half hour away now but I still go to every game other than when I'm home watching the Swans or at a Northern away game.

A mate of mine said "you've got more clubs than Tiger Woods", well I have 2, you may have one, but when that one is Liverpool and you're from Port Talbot you're in no position to lecture me about loyalty.

I've just realised this is an old thread and I've already responded to this post

I don't agree, when the Swans were dwindling for many years as we all know, even in the Championship, if you watched football on match of the day, Sky or whatever, if you didn't have a favoured out coming of a match or a end of league championship, it must have been a strange experience watching without emotion or feeling. Now we are there I couldn't give a toss about any other team, but God help, if we went down I would still watch The Premier and revert back to wanting a certain side whoever it may be win that league, whilst actually going out and watching the Sans in whatever league they are in. What i find strange are the ones who are on social media bugging up the likes of Chelsea then you see them in the stadium in the big games in a Swans shirt.

TBH I never used to watch the Premiership before Swans got there.
If we lose our place then I think this would be the case again.
Even now, I record MOTD, whiz through to Swans highlights (usually at the end !) then go back to beginning and watch other games, often on fast forward.

And older ones to. In the 60's/ early 70's even those of us that went down the vetch had our second team. Effectively our TV team that we supported on match of the day/ big match and in school as well as the swans.

Without sounding like one of the 4 Yorkshireman - no video recorders so match of the day/ the big match was something not to be missed and the only live game on TV tended to be the FA cup final.

Looking back on those days understandable to have that second team.

I can honestly say the first result I looked for (if not at the game or listening to tin pot commentary and reports) was Swans, followed by the results of their rivals, to see how this affected them.
This was followed by a cursory glance (listen) to results from elsewhere.
My second team was Wales, then Newport and Wrexham

Cheers... I'll be at the first home game of the next stage in our road back... We're now in Conference North and the first home game is Boston... Darlo v Boston was a fixture we may have paid much closer attention to not so long ago.

The stadium is still standing altho we dont use it... We did play Newcastle and Sunderland in pre season at the arena, our first visit back since we went bust and reformed...
