Announced his retirement today. Personally thought he was a great footballer and had always come across as an honest pro.

Poll: Are we staying up?

I reckon there's a lot of misty-eyed hindsight going on with Scholes these days.

In retrospect he was a great player when you watch his goal highlights but when he was getting sent off for England everyone was saying he was a hot-headed liability who couldn't tackle, and I don't remember too much clamour to get him back in the England side back then at all.

Maybe.
He was the best midfielder of that generation. Dirty player when needed. He bossed it.
Probably helped having Keane next to him though. Man U were absolute fu**ers of a team back then.

A lot of time for his dad.

His uncle should be doing a lot of time.

Scholes walked out on England unlike Lampard who stood up and got stuck in.

Him and Gerrard was a problem but wasn't either of their faults.

AS for the wife and kids, pretty sure she was something of a fruit cake and not sure I blamed him leaving her, the kids I am sure are well provided for. None of us can trule know what happened though.

Staying in a marriage just for the kids can be detrimental so I feel it's unfair to hammer him for that directly.
