favourite Player Nicknames 18:53 - Aug 16 with 2215 viewspafcprogs

Greetings

Whilst completely bored on holiday I found some click bait on nicknames "One Size" Fitz hall, Chris Musamapa and my favourite for John Eales the Aussie Rugby player " Nobody" because Nobody's perfect

In amongst the plethora of Triggers Psychos and Animals it got me thinking of what funny, apt original and insulting names there have been.

I'd be grateful if there a re any good Dale ones you could recount ( with explanations if required for the non Blue amongst us.

Cheers

Peter

My favourite is Spoonhead, for a forward in the late 70s/early 80s called Mark Hilditch

His head was a bit odd-shaped (hence he could never quite head the ball right when presented with an open goal) but i've always preferred to think it was his ability to spoon the ball over the bar from any conceivable angle

I'll let others deal with DS Donnelly...

We had Coco and Crusty one soggy night at Stockport in the form of Jon Boardman and Rory McArdle. I still have nightmares.

And one of my personal favorites, Velcro Arse for Jamie Hoyland.

If I hadn't seen such riches, I could live with being poor

Not one of ours, but One Size Fitz Hall was genius.

Didn't Notts County fans nickname Sol Campbell R?

Not a player as such but Seven Goran Erection? Although I'd guess that that's a bit of a mouthful.

Wasn't there a Dale fullback, Lacey, noted for his no-nonsense, belt the ball into the stand defending, nicknamed 'Boot'?

And about the same period Derek 'Spider' Rider.

Stuart Barlow, whilst at Everton, was nicknamed "jigsaw" because he goes to pieces in the box.

Two aussie rugby league commentators Roy and H.G. used to have a whole stream of nicknames for players, Steve Roach a prop forward was the wall with eyes and my favourite was the australian Captain, Brad Fittler who was referred to as Adolf. Not sure what Brad thought of it.
