Who'd be a ref? He's one of our own... 12:32 - Oct 13 with 9084 viewsHadders

A fascinating, well-researched and beautifully written article in today's Guardian, by one of our own, Michael Hann. Well done Hanny my son! As an aside, as he suggests at the end, our supporters are surely as guilty as any: being an empathetic and fair-minded sort of chap, I often feel for refs and linos at Loftus Road. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2018/oct/13/football-ref-hostile-players-ir

The bit I got stuck on was the different rules in kids football such as opposition in the other half at a goal kick and not being able to kick out from hands, i ignored it every time and had both managers going mad at me. Hardest bit was getting in the right position to see everything. They've not asked me to do it again since

I reffed my kids and their various teams loads of times and had a massive problem with the then new offside rules and "phases" etc. I just told everyone we were playing 1975 rules. You'd be surprised how many managers said fair enough, although the one or two that printed out fact sheets for their kids were not happy especially as their kids hadn't been born in 1975

Edit.

Sorry Paul.

I'm amazed any is prepared to be a ref. It was bad enough being the scorer for under 11s cricket.

A magnificent football club, the love of our lives, finding a way to finally have its day in the sun.
Poll: When will the next election date be announced?

No worries - although if I could choose just ONE line from the LOTG that I wish EVERYONE knew, it would be

" It is not an offence to be in an offside position"
