Happy Brexit Day on 11:16 - Jan 31 by this_charming_man | Racism isn't on the rise, they have just criminalised more people for offences that aren't really crimes. |
even for you that's an astonishingly stupid statement

I know. All these British people are all so racist and horrid. We ought to visit some EU countries like Bulgaria, Romania and Italy for some great examples of European togetherness and zero racism. Sit in a Bulgarian stadium to see examples of great togetherness, kindness and unity. Such a shame we are stopping free movement for some of these people, as they are so lovely.

Happy Brexit Day on 09:09 - Jan 31 by Boris_ | Yes, if it does turn out that I was wrong voting leave then of course I would apologise to my children. See that's the difference between Leave voters and Remainers. Leave voters are fully aware that we are taking a gamble but believe the gamble is worth it and we'll be much better off in the long term. Remain voters simply cannot accept anything other than their view as fact. Anything good that happens or positive they simply ignore ( do you not want to talk about IMF's latest predictions that our economy will grow the fastest in Europe over the next 2 years? ) Anything negative that happens is because of Brexit. Remain voters now instead of accepting that we are leaving and getting behind it, are desperately hoping it will all end up in disaster just so they can post "I told you so" on their Twitter. The most ironic thing is the Remainers are the cause of us leaving the EU and they are too arrogant to realise it. As Buggalugs showed above, Remainers calling leave voters 'racist thickos' just made leave voters even more resilient. If Remainers had actually took a few chips off their shoulders, there would have been enough of a swing back to Remain to force a 2nd referendum at the very least. |
You’re generalising millions of people there on both sides, all leave voters don’t think the same and all remain voters don’t think the same, especially three and a half years down the line. It is what it is, we are leaving in a few hours and that’s that, life moves on. No one in their right mind who votes remain wants the opportunity to say ‘I told you so’. I voted remain, but having in Europe could see why people would want to leave, but we’ve left and we have to crack on and hopefully it will turn out well not just now but in years to come. Any point scoring on either side is phucking daft.

What are you saying -that because we aren't as racist as our Balkan friends, we've got a bit of catching up to do?

No it isn't. 20 years ago facebook and twitter didn't exist, so you couldn't be found guilty of racist posts on there for example yet these days they make up about 10% of convictions for hate crimes. That's just one example of how the so called raise in racism is being skewed.

Happy Brexit Day on 11:07 - Jan 31 by saint22 | I am sorry you think that but if you take a look around this country at the rise of racist behaviour and rhetoric maybe you will understand why i wrote that Also did you vote leave if you like me would prefer to live next to hard working people from other countries? lastly its still David Camerons fault for putting a decision in the hands of the population to do something that he had been elected to do by them initially |
Lauren, you are a sick liar. Why would anybody take your fascist bile seriously? Attitudes and behaviour of disingenuous thickos like you grind the poor and the disadvantaged into the dirt. You and your ilk are lying, corrupt filth who ride roughshod over the planet and its occupants.

How does the fact that Facebook and Twitter has encouraged more racism, mean that racism hasn't increased?

No I'm saying it's a good job we are leaving the EU, so that the racists of Eastern Europe will not be able to come here freely. Thus leaving the EU will prevent their racists and criminals joining ours as a result of unlimited free movement coming to an end so therefore leaving the EU is giving you the think you want: less racism. So embrace leaving the EU instead of saying you want less racism yet you want free movement to continue based on your support of remaining. The two opinions don't work together. If you think racism is a bad thing, then you must agree that we should be able to attempt to stop racists from EU coming here. In order to prevent them, we have to leave the EU, so you must be pleased we are leaving right? So that the free movement of criminals and racists from EU will lessen. Every little helps right? wheel out the old hate crime stats, nice try. Completely skewed as literally anything can be a hate crime these days, a joke, looking at someone funny, there was even a dog barking at a arab bloke that was registered a hate crime recently. All they've done is lump a load of offenses under the hate crime banner to try and prove they are doing something about it and of course all the lefties jump up and down about how racist everyone is

Happy Brexit Day on 14:41 - Jan 31 with 880 views | saint68 | What a fantastic day for British democracy, 3 and a half years of embarrassing behaviour by anti democratic whingers was mind numbing to say the least. And as Boris mentioned earlier the increasingly unstable Verhofstadt is enough reason to walk away and be glad that the majority in this country had the conviction to safeguard our country from an undiplomatic regime in Brussels that is hellbent on implementing its identity rather than preserving the unique and wonderful countries that make up its numbers. How anyone in their right mind is sad at leaving this maniacal union is not accepting or processing the real danger that remaining would inevitably have had, even the Germans are now becoming envious of our departure. Hard work ambition and enterprise will see this country flourish over the years to come, but some sadly just want an economy meltdown just so they can say I TOLD YOU SO!!...what a sorry existence that must be.

Do ever read these House of Commons briefing papers? They are non-partisan and prepared by Independent researchers working within the House of Commons library, for the benefit of all MPs. So nice and easy for you to say 'wheeling out the old hate crime stats' - as if evidence based argument were some form of medieval witchcraft or 'expert-magic' - but these reports are generally considered to be of high qualify and unbiased. Let's face it, you are pretty set in your views when it comes to this... 'There is no racism pal, points and laughs'.

No remainers even want to enter in to a discussion or attempt to defend Verhofstadts comments... They also won't want to talk to us Leave voters about how wrong the Remain campaign was when they predicted how our economy would do in the 2 years immediately after triggering article 50...

the house of commons papers are driven by political correctness, they categorise multiple new things all the time as "hate crime" to be able to impose stricter punishments on so called criminals.

Only negative news is in their domain in regards to our exit, it must be horrendous waking up every morning hoping for a recession or sterling plummeting..as that is their greatest wish, bizarre behaviour.

Well funnily enough whenever they make a statement in the report they include a footnote indicating their source, so can see for yourself. Many of the references are to Home Office and ONS stats, but there are a range of other sources too.

Exactly, so their sources are statistics and government sources so they wont be a true reflection. As i mentioned there are lot more offences under the banner of hate crime these days compared to even 5 years ago, no it's no surprise that the crime figures have gone up.

Read their report. The authors are bright enough to know when they are not comparing like with like.

The ONS isn't as reliable a source as many would imagine, they struggle to get accurate details and numbers on a wide range of subjects and if you ever speak to anyone who works there or has previously, if they're honest they will openly admit that they use mean averages to support most data and can be wide of the mark more often than not..so if honest I'd say they are 80% correct but definitely not worth betting your house on..an educated guide at best.

Sure, it's fair enough to be skeptical about the agenda behind any report, article, or whatever, but of all the information services in the world, I think you would be hard pressed to think of another one more impartial that the House of Commons library. The point is that they prepare reports for the benefit of ALL MPs, not just the government, so faced with the possibility of attacks from any side if they show a hint of bias, they are going to be as straight as you are ever likely to find. And they publish stuff on all sorts. Just had a quick look at their recent reports and yesterday they published this on 'safe standing at football' debate. https://researchbriefings.parliament.uk/ResearchBriefing/Summary/SN03937 Or how about lap dancing clubs and how they are licensed: https://researchbriefings.parliament.uk/ResearchBriefing/Summary/SN04751

It’s not a hard concept to grasp Ian. There are more offfences considered hate crime these days. Therefore more people will be convicted of hate crimes. It doesn’t nessasarily equate to hate crimes themselves increasing. You could commit the same offence 5 years ago and it not be considered a hate crime.
