Paddys punts - Lewis Hamilton favourite for sports wotsit of the thingy.
Swans favourites 7/5 Draw 2/1 Stoke, I’ve forgotten.

Tonight’s referee is Andre Marriner who is in iron maiden, he wrote a song about himself and his great grandad was Samuel Coleridge. Andre sounds like he’s a bit tup. But he isn’t because he invented the red and yellow card, he shows a lot of people these cards in most games he is the referee. He likes to remind them he is the inventor of these colours. He averages in his whole career nearly three yellows a game ! It’s the truth and we feel that this stat is astonishing. He is though a premier league referee and is on all the select lists available, even ones yet to be introduced in to the world of selectiveness, which isn’t a word.

Marriner ready for a rhyme as he fronts the crowd at HellFest.

He will be assisted by Scott Ledger and Simon Long, while Kevin Johnson will be the fourth official. Fourth official Kevin Johnson is not related to Kevin Carter.

Pre match build up, history, Port Vale, a look at Stoke and why they speak funny, what’s a potter ?, did it have a wheel ?, why do they speak funny, is Stoke really as bad a place to live as it looks, facts you didn’t know about Stoke and couldn’t care, why do they speak funny ? Do they eat a special diet in Stoke ?, Why waste so much money on naff players ?, and the most asked question, why do they speak funny ?

It’s all on its way in the hottest, most read Matchday Thread ever made, and that includes cheese.

Stoke City football facts
1 — Stoke City are the second oldest professional football club in the world, after Notts County, and were one of the founding members of the Football League.
2 — The club’s only major trophy to date was the League Cup, which they won in 1972 after beating Chelsea 2-1 in the final. They also lifted the Football League Trophy in 1992 and 2000.
3 — Stoke City’s highest league finish in the top division is fourth. The Potters finished in this position in both the 1935/36 and 1946/47 seasons.
4 — Prior to their promotion in 2008, Stoke City had not participated in the top flight of English football for 23 years.
5 — The club were originally formed under the name Stoke Ramblers in 1863, but 15 years later they merged with Stoke Victoria Cricket Club and became Stoke Football Club. In 1925, when Stoke-on-Trent was granted “city status” their name changed again, this time to Stoke City Football Club.

More interesting facts about Stoke City fans is they only have one song, its called 'Go on Stoke' and it sounds like they struggle with that quite a lot as they have to repeat it continuously until they remember it. Stoke is in a place called Port Vale where music millionaire and Lee Hendry lookalike, Robbie Williams, lives in a small bedsit. Prior to his suicide when he killed himself in 2014, in America, Robbie was in loads of films. He is best remembered for being an old woman. Stoke claims to be the world centre of ceramics, a ceramic is a kiln fired thing which is made in to a shape then smashed by Greek people. The funniest joke ever told in the history of jokes is I made a ceramic sculpture of Mohammed Ali but it exploded in the kiln. It was gaseous clay.

It is normal at this point that we review the referee and officials, but strangely enough none have been announce a little more than 24 hours before kick off. Maybe after Saturdays game when Bonny Langford was the ref they have decided that no officials will be required on Tuesday ? This makes a mockery of referees stating they pre plan for days before a game. It isn't very good.

Record, Swans v Stoke.
Games won: 23
Games drawn: 21
Games lost: 30

First game was in 1925 at the vetch field on Christmas day. The sides drew 1-1, the very next day when they met again in 'Go on Stoke' and drew again by the same score. The next month however, in the FA Cup, Swansea put 6 goals in the Potters wheel, they replied with 3.

Swans Latest
Steve Cooper is weighing up changes to his Swansea City side as the relentless fixture schedule continues with Tuesday’s meeting with Stoke City.

The clash with the Potters is the fourth game in a sequence that sees the Swans play seven games in just 22 games.

Head coach Cooper’s selection has been consistent over the opening weeks of the season but - given the sheer weight of games - he acknowledges there will be a need to rotate and give different players a chance to impress in the matches ahead.

"It will be sooner rather than later,” said Cooper when asked if he would make changes against the Potter.

"It didn't really come too much into the thinking for the Bristol City game because there was an extra day of rest.

"But going into a Saturday-Tuesday, I certainly think that you really need to monitor the physical and mental status of the players.

"We've got players who are not on the pitch at the moment who are ready to go, and we need to utilise that."

Stoke City Latest
Stoke City are hoping midfielders Jordan Thompson and Sam Clucas will be available for the Championship clash at Swansea City on Tuesday.

Expect changes tonight..

Swansea City head coach Steve Cooper hands a debut to Ryan Manning as one of three changes for tonight’s meeting with Stoke City.

Manning joined the Swans from QPR on deadline day, and he slots in at left wing-back in place of Jake Bidwell.

Kyle Naughton and Yan Dhanda are also handed starting roles, taking the places of Ben Cabango and Korey Smith respectively.

Freddie Woodman starts in goal, with Naughton joining Marc Guehi and Ryan Bennett in a three-man defence.

Manning and Connor Roberts are the two wing-backs, with skipper Matt Grimes and Jay Fulton paired together in midfield.

Dhanda — making his first Championship start of the season — will take up an attacking midfield role, with Andre Ayew and Jamal Lowe operating ahead of him.

Swansea City: Freddie Woodman; Kyle Naughton, Ryan Bennett, Marc Guehi; Connor Roberts, Jay Fulton, Matt Grimes (captain), Ryan Manning; Yan Dhanda; Andre Ayew, Jamal Lowe.

Substitutes: Steven Benda, Ben Cabango, Jake Bidwell, Korey Smith, Kasey Palmer, Liam Cullen, Viktor Gyokeres.

Stoke City: Adam Davies, Morgan Fox, Sam Vokes, James McClean, James Chester, John Obi Mikel (captain), Tommy Smith, Jacob Brown, Tashan Oakley-Boothe, Josh Tymon, Harry Souttar.

Substitutes: Amgus Gunn, Danny Batth, Lee Gregory, Steven Fletcher, Jordan Cousins, Nick Powell, Tyrese Campbell.

Referee: Andre Marriner

His hold up play, always looking to go forward, not afraid to take shot, and his general physicality.

That's only my opinion mind.

I agree FB and the more he plays the better he gets plus he offers cooper a plan B or a plan A if he starts.

It was, he had a great game but he doesnt hold the ball up well though.

That's why it's good to have a striker who can hold up the ball and bring players onto him.

Peronally,I d have Vic deployed mainly as he can hold the ball up.I'm hoping he can be given some service but that' s down to Steve to sort out.

Today ,we are all more sanguine. If we can get 4 points form Brentford and Norwich then I'll be digging out my old scrapbook and getting misty teary eyed with memories of our glory years.

I just cannot relate to Steve. Maybe I could meet him for lunch -as long as pay ,that is.

He’s not there to hold the ball up though, he’s there to make runs in behind, stretch defences, always gives us an out ball.

Gyokeres makes us too easy to defend against, everything is in front of the opposition back four and there’s zero pace anywhere else to get in behind or be a cause of any concern. Too predictable if we played a two of Ayew and Gyokeres imo.

Gyokeres gives us an option no one else at the club can do so it as I've said it gives cooper another formation to play.

I’m not sure what Gyokeres does what Ayew can’t do, and what Ayew can’t do a lot better to be honest.

Time will tell though, plenty of games coming up.

Ayew even though he can leap he cannot hold the ball up and bring players onto it, he isnt the natural 9 who does that sort of thing whereas gyokeres does.

Ateotd we have a player who gives cooper another option, as you say we have a few games coming up and I suspect we will be seeing a few different formations which can only be good as there are several teams playing different formations, we need to be prepared and I reall think that its coming together for cooper.

He is another option but I think we’ve moved away from hold up play as our main tactic and are playing a more fluid game. At least twice players were fed running in behind with shorter passes against Stoke which is much harder to defend against. We haven’t really tried to hold the ball up anywhere near the amount of time we used to historically.

However Gyokeres does give us that option .

That is quite correct brynnie and as we both agree gyokeres gives us another option.

Isnt it nice when people on the forum agree and get on

On a side note I noticed on quest last night that bell murray mentioned that stoke were poor against us when it was obviously us who made them look poor, plus they didnt go into too much detail on our match which imo is good, the longer we fly under the radar the better.

When are people going to learn to stop writing players off after mere minutes on the pitch? Time and time again after a couple of games the "He's shit!" nonsense starts.

You'd think Guehi alone would be reason enough for people to engage brain before typing.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Even though he was poor in his first two games and I was correct in one way, it taught me a lesson to keep my head down and mouth shut until said player has been given a good chance.

And I hope gyokeres proves his knockers wrong.

It is better when posters disagree and get on. It is only opinion after all and not an invitation to war. Really.

If we all thought the same, the club is dead and football has no meaning

Well no Risca, not to Winston. You disagree with him,you are stupid or any other perjorative that amuses his admirers. Winston is never ever wrong.,not even about greedy scouser Andy Robinson ten years ago.

You are right;nobody is writing anyone off.

It really is about opinions whether they are seen as dumb or not.
