| Stupid hypothetical question. 11:16 - Apr 23 with 2214 views | Snipper | This is purely from a fans point of view. If QPR have a very good season next season, and get promoted, as fans, would you take half the tv money, but stay in the Championship? We’d be going into the Premier League hoping to finish 17th, and probably sign loads of players on decent money, and probably be relegated anyway. I’d much rather that we were a decent Championship team, than whipping boys in the Premier League. I hate the Premier League with a passion, and I couldn’t care less if we ever play there again. | | | | |

| Stupid hypothetical question. on 12:31 - Apr 23 by Antti_Heinola | I do agree, but I also think there's a breaking point. 6 or 7 seasons coming 14th will eventually take a toll and the excitement of a relegation and another promotion is welcome. but this is is the same for about 30-40 clubs from about 8th down in the prem to halfway in league one. 13 of the current prem have been in the Champ in the last decade, 6 or 7 have been in league one in the ast 20-odd years. 5 of league one have been in the prem in the last 15 or so years. It's an unpopular view, but all of us clubs below the real top ones, but above the 'small' FL clubs, will continue this sort of yo-yoing, whether it's a slow or a fast yo-yo, for the forseeable future. Leicester possibly the exception as they seem to be establishing themselves as a midlands power. so of course take the promotion, try and establish, but as fans, no one should be under any illusions that in the next 30 years we'll probably play in all three divisions at some stage. |
Interesting post, Antti. I wonder if Leicester "establishing themselves as a midlands power" is extending beyond the city of Leicester itself? On paper there's a bit of a vacuum - obviously Nottingham and Derby both have clubs with (I assume) strong local brands, but we've all seen the appeal of winning teams to kids without any connection to a club, and there's a big swathe of turf in the East Midlands through Northants, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire and so on without much competition. Not sure we have the same opportunity, too much competition; though there is a big population up the Thames Valley as far as Oxford with gpod rail and road connections into West London and neither the Fakes nor Swindon are exactly unassailable giants of the game | | | |
