He’s got the instinct to get in the right places, but seemed to lack the coolness of a finisher, so he looks worse than someone who doesn’t ever get in position. Let’s hope he can build up his confidence.
I think we need to remember he is coming off the back of very little competitive football over the past year and is now being asked to step up again and carry the main goal threat for his side. Going to take a little time for him to settle down and get going again. He will be OK, he gets in the position score sufficiently and will get opportunities, he was never bad before, just lacked coaching/nous.
Charlton mate was surprised we bought him as felt he probably needed a little longer work at League 1 to develop as he was hard working, but horribly naive in places, but equally seemed to actually have quite a good eye for goal. My suspicion is that League 1 may be his level, but was hoping that a season working with Charlie would really help him.
Agree completely that he has to find the right level of football. A couple of years ago when he was at Orient in the National League he was scoring freely. Going to Charlton in League 1 was quite a jump up. Hopefully, with more experience under his belt, and at the club where he came through the youth system, he will do better this time around.
He scored 1 in 3 in the championship for a relegation-bound Charlton so he can score at this level, he gets in the positions but finishing is often lacking which hopefully he can work on at Ipswich.
I really hope he matures a bit and keeps his cool in front of goal because if you have someone who can consistently get into great positions AND was a cool finisher, you'd be looking at 15 goals a season. Oh and if he learns how to stay onside more. For some reason I actually have hope for him. Just needs to be given a decent run in the side when he is ready. Could be looking at a Dykes-esque transformation.

.....which equates to 15+ over a 46 games season. He's naturally one of those who will miss some easy chances. Jordan Hugill's another. Give him the right sort of service though, and he will end up with a reasonable scoring record.
