Couldn't be further from the truth. From The i: "Wage demands were not a problem — Eriksen has accepted a salary well within Brentford’s wage structure to get the deal done" [url] https://inews.co.uk/sport/foot There were reports saying he was £300k per week at Inter - very possibly exagerrated, but not by much for a player of his standing. While I think (stress) that the top basic wage at BFC is around £40k per week (plus heavily incentivised bonuses). Bear in mind, too, that at around 25%, foreign footballers in Italy only pay half the normal income tax rate, meaning that they get to take home a quarter more of their wage over there than they do in the UK. | | | |

| Christian Eriksen on 09:23 - Feb 1 by CopenhagenRs | As a Danish Ranger it pisses me off to see him at Brentfart. I know how good he is. But I guess that he was looking for a safe and comfortable environment with a lot of other Danes and guaranteed playing time on the pitch. He is basically a quite shy and introvert person and he is definitely not there because of the money/last pay cheque. His main goal is to get fit for the World cup and therefore he has chosen the Bees. As far as I know his contract is short term and can be cancelled with short notice. If he does well he will probably move on to another bigger club. |
That newspaper article I quoted earlier shows how BFC went "the extra mile" in order to get this deal done, which must have reassured CE and his advisers that it would be a good move. Extracts include: "It was, according to one of the people at the heart of the signing, the 'most complicated deal in the history of football'. 'Fans might look at it and think it was a matter of checking his heart, giving him a medical and getting it done but Brentford are in unchartered territory,' a source told i. 'It’s taken a long time — it wasn’t just Brentford who needed to be satisfied, it was the player and everyone around him and then the Premier League and the Football Association as well — who didn’t want anything to happen on their watch.' What’s certain is there were other, 'bigger' clubs who had lodged their interest. But Brentford’s commitment to Eriksen, the attention-to-detail in their plan to support the Dane on and off-the-field and commitment to ongoing monitoring, was on a different level from the tentative enquiries from 'half of the Premier League'. 'He’s an elite player so every club in Europe where he could play has taken a look at it but it doesn’t surprise me he’s gone there. It’s a family club, they look after their players — that’s a reputation that goes before them,' one agent said of Brentford. Whereas one or two clubs shied away when they realised the extent of the work that would need to go into supporting Eriksen, Brentford simply got to work." this, had it not been for the Italian FA rule he'd have been back with Inter. Luckily he survived his incident and hopefully is fully fit and ok to continue. The Danish FA, Premier League and associated authorities would have ensured he is ok to continue; so despite the obvious 'fingers crossed' moment if he goes down at all it should be fine. always seemed a good pro and decent guy so hope it all works out for him.
