just to put that into perspective, 80m in wages is equivalent to 16 players each making 100k a week... bournemouths wages will be nowhere close to that and by the way, we're still not accounting for parachute payments which, last i checked, were in the range of £40m a year (though the figure tapers off over time) [Post edited 2 Feb 2022 19:11]

Re wages, the 2019/20 Accounts show the following: #AFCB wage bill fell £3m (3%) from £111m to £108m, as some senior members of non-playing staff took voluntary pay reductions. Nevertheless wages have risen £36m (51%) in the last three years, even though revenue has fallen £41m (30%) in the same period. As a result, #AFCB £108m wage bill was 12th highest in the Premier League, a lot higher than most would expect, due to offering “competitive remuneration packages” suitable for a club in the top flight. Will fall in Championship thanks to relegation clauses and player departures. (Remember, we're not just talking player wages, even if they will account for the bulk of the wage bill) Re. parachute payments, these are £42m in Year 1, £35m in Year 2 and £16m in Year 3.

We’re talking about wages while they’re in the championship, so their wage bill in the prem is not really relevant Obviously let’s see their wage bill for 2020/2021 but i assume it will reduce significantly due to relegation clauses and because they replaced squad members like Nathan ake, Callum Wilson, Jermaine Defoe and josh king with the likes of Ben Pearson [Post edited 2 Feb 2022 22:26]

I wasn't making a point, merely elaborating on their latest known wage bill, following earlier speculation. While your point about the "significant reduction in 2020/21 etc" was also alluded to in my post. HTH [Post edited 2 Feb 2022 22:28]

| Bournemouth taking massive gamble with ffp.. on 19:02 - Feb 1 by Northernr | Yet another common misconception among the general social media football supporting population - if you buy Dominic Solanke for £20m, you don't just dump £20m in Liverpool's current account there and then. It's paid out over time. So if you spend £100m on players, and get relegated 18 months later, you're still going to owe most of that. |
Thanks for reminding us of that, Clive. So QPR have not yet received the full 20m (16m+?) from Palace for Eze. And the money we have splashed out on incoming players using that money will similarly be largely in future payments. So the money-go-round must be propped up by the clubs' overdraft facilities? But players' wages must have to go out monthly in real money, surely?

When any club, or any business actually receive the cash isn't the same as when it is recognised in the accounts. Money in/out usually recognised when it is invoiced/ordered and added to Debtors/Creditors in the balance sheet. FFP based on P & L, not balance sheet/cashflow. Obviously, without a friendly bank/benefactor you can't run with a negative cashflow for that long and the people you owe money to always want it in the end - funny that?! | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Could be wrong, but I think I read somewhere that Denim's money is in the form of loans, rather than equity (the bulk of it at any rate). And while it is doubtless very difficult/expensive, it is notable that even after all this time with him in charge, they're still no closer to getting a new stadium (Champiomship-standard, never mind PL).
