We could really do with Chair and Willock lasting the full 90 mins in these big games. Or at least one of them. I know Willock was on the pitch till the end but he barely had a kick the last 20-30 mins. To be fair Willock took a bit of a knock in the second half and might be the reason he struggled afterwards. Also didn’t help that we were being overwhelmed in midfield. | | | | |
| Chair on 12:31 - Feb 10 with 580 views | qprd | original post here is incredibly (and unreasonably) harsh on willock he has basically played the full 90 minutes or nearly 90 minutes for every match for the last few months lets not forget that for the last month without chair (and pre-hendrick), he was basically our sole creative attacking player, with us opting for two strikers. he was regularly double teamed in the last month and lets not also forget that the guy just gets absolutely battered by other teams.... hes not quite at eze levels of being fouled, but opposition are constantly pulling him, fouling, etc (and to his credit, he never goes down) if anything, willock has played too many minutes (not too few) | | | |

It wasn’t intended to be a criticism of Willock and I thought that was made clear in the final paragraph. I’ve got nothing but love for Willock. But it’s fair to say Willock faded last night mainly because he was kicked and without Chair on the pitch we really struggled towards the end of the game. My original post was more to do with Chair and getting the best out of him and Willock to avoid situations like the second half last night. I wonder if Warburton might conclude that starting Willock with Chair on the bench to come on later in the big games (against the top 6) and an extra body in midfield could give us a bit more control and protect against what happened last night. In an ideal world we’ve have a Tom Lawrence as well but we don’t and need to start thinking about how we’ll approach the playoffs if we get there. [Post edited 10 Feb 2022 13:07]
