Been saying this for years. There should be a list of NHS professions that attract free education/training in return for a commitment to a certain number of years of NHS service, the years to depend on the cost of the training.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

100% agree with you - there’s a massive shortage in many professions across the NHS. In Wales, nurses get their training for free if they work in the Welsh NHS for 2 years after qualifying.

Two years seems a little low for me. I'd up that to at least five.

I can see why you may say that, but this is probably not the best time to up the requirement because there is also pressure because nurse salaries aren't keeping up with inflation. In England where bursaries were replaced with student loans some years ago, there is a big problem of attrition. This has led to calls to forgive student debt in return for years of service.

The money in training is very poor.

A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.

The old apprenticeship training model associated with the nursing colleges ended with the coming of Project 2000, when the idea of an all graduate nursing workforce was introduced. English nursing students do degree courses for which they must pay, and are able to get loans to cover course fees and living costs like other students. Welsh students do not pay fees and the bursary also supports living costs, albeit not too generously.

The NHS Wales Bursary includes:

Tuition fees paid in full
A non-means-tested grant of £1,000
A reduced Maintenance Loan (up to £5,360 if you live away from home – up to £6,815 if it's in London – or up to £4,475 if you live with parents)
Additional allowances depending on personal circumstances, such as funding to help students with disabilities and extra support for students with financially dependent adults and children.

Shouldn't it be made more attractive to train rather than less?
