They charge Okay in a garage. Mind you even diesel freezes in Chicago's weather.

Battery efficiency goes down in cold weather, plus the heaters would have to be blasting at those temps. Long journeys would be a nightmare

The issue seems to be that below a certain temperature the batteries don't charge at all.
