New Metal Fencing At St Mary’s 19:43 - Jul 3 with 6410 views | UTS1885 | From what I could see from northam bridge, there is a load of new fencing running around northam and kingsland at least. Lots of gates, I presume this is something to do with the new hospitality or away fans being moved ? Or both. Looks like away fans have their own fenced off walkway that runs parallel to the railway line. [Post edited 3 Jul 19:49]

Couldn’t agree more. The amount of people leaving on 35 minutes to get a half time pint is incredible. I go to the ground to watch the game not for the food and drink.

Totally agree, although in the past if you didnt go at 35 minutes you would never gat a pint, I just don't bother because of the queues, last season it got a bit easier with the opening up of the main doors and bars outside. But at half time I leave with 30 seconds of injury time to go Too many people brag about storming out with 20 minutes to go etc, last season we were the master of the late goal, yet large proportions of the crowd had already left.

New Metal Fencing At St Mary’s on 12:00 - Jul 7 by saintwizzler | Not personally, I have food before I leave home, but my Great Nephew had some fries from the Kwackers stall by the bike sheds. The fries were served in a small polystyrene cup and were cold. They cost £3. I had a £6.90 pint of Kingfisher lager last season in the ground that was as flat as a turd and warm. I don’t mind paying the money but when it’s not up to standard I decline. They be better off selling cans. Long shelve life, recyclable and if served at the correct temperature a perfect drink. But knowing SFC they’d probably charge £5 a can. |
I think you might of been a bit unlucky, the gas works bar and surrounding kiosks do a selection of beers and lagers and pretty good food, it’s reasonable priced for a large venue, I believe the club have said once the contract with Kingfisher expires they want to look into ways of lowering the prices for drinks etc

As I’ve said I go to St Mary’s Stadium to watch the football not to eat and drink. I can survive 2 hours without a pint or food. A piss on the other hand, no. It’s bad enough trying to go for a slash at half time without getting food and/or drink.

No, that’s the Match experience! Match day experience for some starts when they leave home, or get to a city centre pub, or get to the stadium and finishes again at various different times/locations! The club are trying to provide an improved offering that encourages fans to spend more of their match day time and money at the stadium itself. That in my opinion is a good thing, if you disagree then that’s fine too as you can just turn up watch the match and leave!

If you don’t go the stadium to eat or drink then there’s nothing to moan about surely?

As I said earlier I’d rather give SFC the money than a pub in the city. I usually am in the pub at noon for a 3pm kick off. And I’ll say it again, if the quality of the drink was better I’d go to the stadium earlier, but it’s not so I don’t. So at this present time I go into the stadium 10 minutes before kick off. I’m not moaning about it, I just go elsewhere for a decent pint. I’m not going to pay £7+ plus this season to drink flat, warm lager. If you want to do it, crack on.

Nah, I’ll have a nice cold rose cider to wash down the chunky hot burger thanks, all within the fanzone! 👍

As you said previously your Rose Cider comes from a can or a bottle which means it will always be A1. Unfortunately the draught drinks are not. Let’s see what next season brings. We may have to have a drink in the gasworks after the game if the away fans come up that way. My nephew will look to keep his 8 year old son away from the fun and games of the footbridge so we could enjoy a drink after and let the crowds disperse. Keep it pub prices and maintain quality and people will use it. For now I’ll stick to 5 Rivers prematch and their excellent Heineken and from what others say great food.

It was a lot less obtrusive than I'd expected but, as you say, it will slow down the exit of a big crowd. It will be interesting to see how the fencing funneling the crowd to the footbridge works after the Forest game. There has always been congestion there, although last night, with the small crowd, it didn't present any problems. There still seemed to be some unfinished work, with building materials piled up in that fenced area behind the Northam. [Post edited 8 Aug 9:12]

Had a pint of Guinness last night which surprisingly wasn’t that bad. Not a touch on the real deal from Dublin of course but ok . I didn’t even know they were selling it until a saw a bloke drinking it as it’s not on the price list.

New Metal Fencing At St Mary’s on 10:07 - Aug 8 with 824 views | Southamptonfan | So are there stewards waiting on the outside of the fences checking tickets and checking you are going to the right sections? I guess the issue is that if my ticket is in the Northam, can I drink with a mate outside the Chapel before the game, or are we herded to our section? Can you walk round the ground once you're in the perimeter fence? [Post edited 8 Aug 10:10]

There was no herding or checking last night, but it was a small crowd. You could walk around outside the Itchen and Northam fairly easily but I didn't need to walk past the new away section in the Kingsland/Chapel corner, where I expect movement will be more controlled. The away section is, in fact, mostly in the Kingsland, so you shouldn't have too much trouble walking past the Itchen round to the Chapel. [Post edited 8 Aug 10:27]

New Metal Fencing At St Mary’s on 13:49 - Aug 8 with 686 views | BLEEDRED | My take on the fencing is it looks like the away fans will have an enclosed walkway to access the bridge. So, guess this will be the way to the train station for away fans. It also looks like there is a gate that can be closed to stop access to home fans to the bridge/underpass, if this will happen at every game or just high risk games only time will tell, I can't find anything from the club to say if away fans will use the bridge! It's the way I go, so will not be happy if it is closed off for some games.
