| Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

Do you have to be from Swansea to support The Swans ? on 20:09 - Sep 27 by swan65split | Growing up on the mid 60s, all the lads were either Man u, pool or leeds fans, only poor old me was a Swans fan and was always taken the wizz out of, a few years ago their all wearing swans tops and boasting they were lifelong fans. don't see them wearing tops now. also been messaging an old mate tonight, who moved away mid 70s, sees more away games than he can manage home. |
Lucky they’ve lived that long 😉

Do you have to be from Swansea to support The Swans ? on 11:29 - Sep 27 by Whiterockin | I would say no, but if you are Swansea born and bred you have an affinity that can not be matched. |
I would disagree. I live an hour and a half away. I have been watching the Swans since 1968. Never wanted to support any other club. My father would take us to about 10-20 games a season. There are a good few thousand similar to me who have supported the Swans since a small kid. I was watching when we had 3000. I am watching now when our fan base is fickle because we are not in the PL or not playing good football. It doesn’t matter where you are from. Perchy disagrees of course. But he doesn’t watch many games.

Do you have to be from Swansea to support The Swans ? on 17:23 - Sep 27 by ReslovenSwan1 | I have lived in London Norwich Newcastle Scarborough and Birmingham and always supported Swansea city. You missed the point of Leighton Buzzard. I would not support Swansea city it they were based there. Part of the appeal for me is it is Welsh as so am I. Beating English teams gives me pleasure as a does being no 1 team in Wales. Swansea have in recent years " punched above its weight". Currently fans see this era as unsuccessful but in reality mid table in the Championship is the clubs natural position and above it median. |
“Beating English clubs gives me pleasure” is a very, very odd and a bit of a dodgy thing to say it has to be said. Do you think supporting Swansea is more of a chance for you indulge racism/prejudice inside of you more than a love of the club, just for the club?

But then again if you are not Swansea born and bred you can't compare, how can you , you wouldn't know you can only imagine. Without out a doubt supporting your home town club is passion you have to live to understand. Others can only speculate what it's like.

So many younger local work colleagues have Man City , Man U,as their go to first result . They might make a polite ask how the Swans got on that day though . Football is big business now , maybe not a sport anymore unfortunately . Sunday afternoon whoever I sit by in the East , somebody made the effort to be there .

I’m not intending to be personal here, but it is going to come across that way. If you refuse to ever go to Swansea and denigrate both the city and the country at every opportunity, you’re someone who has turned his back on the city. That’s nothing to do with moving away, plenty of people do that and appreciate the place more than those of us who live here. Crowds are low at the moment. A significant part of our home crowd travel in from West Wales, the valleys and beyond. Those people should be encouraged not ostracised.

I can't believe what you, a great poster, are coming out with WR. I think you are talking bollocks and I am saying this because my preston born son, who has watched us since he was 3, is a true Jack, he has followed us for almost 15 years, I say this because he absolutely loves the swans, he has never ever wavered towards another team, imo he loves us so much because of me, I am a true Jack who has supported his home team, even though I left swansea 37 years ago at 18, I tell him the stories of the vetch and especially the north bank, the stories of even when we were sh!t that the atmosphere at vetch was unbelievable, if you still don't think he's a true Jack just ask all the Jack mates I've got, they all know how much he loves the swans and if I went tomorrow he would still go and watch us.

I really don't dispute that your son is a fantastic supporter and there are many like him. But the description you have provided of yourself backs up my opinion. I'm not going to argue over the point, I just feel if you support the local team where you are born and bred it is a different type of "love".

'Different type of love' Well I'm a 'true jack' and I can tell you he loves the swans as much as me in fact id go as far to say he probably loves them more considering he isnt from swansea so unfortunately are wrong there mate 😉❤️🦢
Do you have to be from Swansea to support The Swans ? on 08:03 - Sep 28 with 606 views | jack247 | I think there’s a bit of a blurred line here between affinity with the area and affinity with the football club. I can see where both WR and FB are coming from. Purely in terms of football, I don’t think you need to be local to be as much of a Jack bastard as anyone else. The city is different. I’m sure that’s the same wherever you’re from.

Well said, I was just going to post something similar. Being ex Ystalyfera and both my sons not born in Swansea, are 100% Swans supporters as well as loving Swansea as a city. Yes supporting your home town club gives an extra edge, but the answer doesn’t fit all. Some Swansea born fans will enjoy football but not the full passion, all of us are different characters. Others not born travel many miles by choice, showing passion. We all support the club, this type of thread comes up every few years. Why?
Do you have to be from Swansea to support The Swans ? on 11:14 - Sep 28 with 505 views | pencoedjack | No way. It’s far more time consuming / expensive to follow the Swans if you live outside the city. There is also far more hatred for the Basseys due to what happened in the 80’s & 90s that those live in between cities know far better than those who live in Swansea.

I am Swansea born and bred. I have lived & worked in several locations all over the country & abroad. I have travelled far and wide with boys from Ammanford, Kidwelly, Carmarthen, Aberdare, the valleys & Bridgend. The passion for all things Swansea City from the boys that I know is in every way equal to the passion of ‘born and bred’ Jacks. That’s not a point of view, that is from my experience
