They've been waiting to cull the Ospreys for years. Shocking really! Arguably the most successful region. It would never be Cardiff no matter what and the Dragons are a complete joke. https://www.walesonline.co.uk/

The above is a quote from Abi Tierney, the WRU CEO regarding the redevelopment of the Principality Stadium. If that IS the case why are they struggling for the money for the regions who actually develop the players to play for Wales ?

That of course would be the obvious choice. So, it will probably be The Ospreys!!

You're probably right. The Dragons have signed the WRU contract which regardless being the worst playing region probably puts them in a stronger position. If the WRU were to pull the Dragons there will no doubt be litigation. If they cull the Ospreys with plans of a new ground, facilities backing of council and university again I can see legal action. It's an absolute s show but the duplitious WRU will always protect Cardiff Rugby

Ospreys signed some sort of agreement with London Welsh apparently….last April? I wonder if this could be used as a possible backdoor entry to English Championship/Premiership?

Wouldn't that been as treachery by turning its back on Wales What a dog breakfast It's why I say Wales is so utterly divided in every way , linguistically, culturally , and sporting I When are we going to grow up

The day rugby turned professional it became a business Low. Fans were told to buy into the formation of the regions….and many didn’t. The failure of the WRU has brought this to the fore. They have been amateurish and have brought our national game to its knees. The final straw was the total lack of integrity regarding funding. When blackmail hasn’t worked the threat of dissolution of a region has been used. However….we’ll have a lovely Eco friendly stadium ready for the next Taylor Swift tour.

Great read Luther and very true However " nation game"....,ya got away with that one It hasn't worked as we are tribal and it oversees all It's painful to repeat but I will if it helps some to grow up and think bigger Losing the name Swansea finished it for me Swansea / Neath not for me Swansea Llanelli Get my drift? Sad innit Only way would have been east Wales and Wezt Wales Two regions of this nature in Scotland works

East v West. Far too simplistic because it might actually work! Northern side resurrected maybe? However can you imagine the howls of indignation from The Capitol. Yet another bankrupt club voicing their greatness as they fade into oblivion. Neath v Swansea…..some memories there 😂

Exactly right two regions only East and West as you say. Swansea, Llanelli, Cardiff and Newport semi pro continuing in the Welsh league system and feeding the two regions. Makes sense but the WRU can't see sense.

That was my suggestion ages back when culling a region was first mentioned. Then try and get the two regions into an Anglo/Welsh league. Ir try to have a thried region up in Gogledd and get them all into the Anglo. Completely new teams with no club ties invovled with the original clubs back in harness. Why not? Maybe then the issue would be, where do they play? Would they need new stadia? Or send them around the grounds?

I would have no problem with Parc Scarlets being shared between West Wales and Llanelli with Swansea playing at St Helens. The East can do whatever they frigging want.

Why have you omitted Neath, who were the strongest club side in Welsh Rugby for years until the regions kicked off. I'm a born and bred Jack, but Neath were a superb rugby team before regions.

I'd agree, to have the strongest Amateur set up back we'd need the Welsh All Blacks.

Neath are nothing like they were and play in a lower league than Swansea, Cardiff and Newport. I believe Llanelli RFC no longer exist, but I could be wrong.

They're not no, but you tell me a club side that is thriving, they promoted the Ospreys rise by the quality of the players they had. That should never be forgotten.

AND, if they were back in a proper league with proper clubs again I reckon they'd soon pick up. I'm not saying a return to former glories but they will get better when the old tribal rivalries atr ressurected.

Wife's nieces daughters husband plays on the wing for Neath, think he's scored over 30 tries this season. [Post edited 21 May 22:41]

This 100%, they are out of their depth and show absolutely no vision for the game in Wales, incompetency rules up at Westgate St, Cardiff. This is further proof https://www.walesonline.co.uk/ [Post edited 24 May 15:00]
