Double Programme 08:39 - Dec 5 with 471 viewsSaintNick

It seems that there will not be a separate programme for the Birmingham City & West Brom games, instead it will be a double edition for both games.

Is this the start of the end for football programmes at Southampton FC

Several times the sequel is betterer.
Empire Strikes Back, God Father Part II, Police Academy 2: Their First Assignment.

This bodes well for Tuesday as we take on Midlands giants Birmingham and West Brom in the next few days.

Can't remember Saints doing it, went to Watford and Northampton earlier this season and they don't even print programmes any more.
Guess doesn't make any money

It's been done for pre-season friendlies at St Mary's, but not for league games. We're moving towards a paperless society. Tickets and programmes will soon be things of the past.

Most countries in the world never had programmes anyway, which I always found disappointing, as they made good souvenirs, but, as one of my children pointed out, who needs written records when you can record all your memories on your phone?
The same applies to matchday info and team lineups. Improving the wi-fi at St Mary's has hastened the demise of the football programme. At half-time, which was about the only time most articles in football progammes were ever read by anyone, people look at their phones now.

What do kids these days get Glenn Cockerill to sign when they attend their first game in the Junior Saints section?

I sincerely hope they haven’t stopped showing Saint and Greavsie on the TV in the lounge either.

God, when did I get so old FFS?

You cannot reason a person out of something they were not reasoned into.

It was becoming nothing more than a book of shiny ads.

When I first started watching non-league football in the late 70s the programme was just a two sided printed sheet but it did have the starting lineup which was the main point of getting it.

I will stand to be corrected if I am wrong, but as far as I know, it is still a Football League / FA requirement that all clubs make a printed programme available for every game with certain basic minimum requirements such as line-ups, forthcoming fixtures and results.
This requirement has been in place since the late 1800’s so until it is revoked there will still be programmes of some description for every game.
Double programmes were not unusual at some clubs way beck when. About 100 years ago there were occasions when Liverpool & Everton used to issue a joint programme for the same day, so a 1st team game for Everton & a Reserve team game for Liverpool or the other way around. A few other clubs did joint programmes on occasions.
As already mentioned apart from pre-season I don’t recall Saints ever doing this for two League games.
The amount of money this will save is absolutely minuscule when compared to what we are paying Sam Edozie every week not to play football…

So do I keep my 66 WCF programme (in good nick and an original, not a reprint) and myriad of old 60's league programmes for the kids to make a fortune out of when they find "all of dad's old cr@p stuff" in the attic, as well as quite a few away programmes from the 70's and 80's
I had a blitz one and threw a load of those 60's and early 70's one away and wished I hadn't
